The internet kind...
A while ago I was ordering something on the interweb. When I went to check out I got shut down because vendor's cookie was blocked. I went in and unblocked it and finished the sale without event. However, I got to thinking...
I block all cookies unless they are necessary (like GB, etc). When I clean out my browser cache it clears out all my blocked cookies too. It's amazing to see how many companies try to put cookies on your machine! Then for the next few days I have to deal with the blocker prompt popping up for virtually every website. I usually click 'yes to all (with the don't ask again box checked)', but I noticed something today.
Now maybe some of you interweb wizzes already know this, but in my case today I know I have had to unblock this particular on-line vendor on several occasions. If I go to their website I will 'allow' the cookies if they're not already on the list of blocked ones. So it seems, companies try to set cookies for their site at locations other than their site (i.e. google setting a cookie for google from a site other than google...just an example).
So then I started looking at the blocked list (and there are thousands). I found several sites that I would allow who show up on the blocked list. So this is my question...
Do companies ever try to set cookies from maybe competitors on your machine just to get you to turn your blocker off alltogether so theirs can get through?0 -
Can anyone please tell me how to go about deleting cookies and temp files from my computer - Windows XP Media Center edition.
In my senility, I have forgotten.

Right click on the Internet Explorer Icon on your Desktop and click on Properties at the bottom of Pop-up menu. Under the general tab you will be able to delete the cookies by clicking on Settings under Browsing History (IE 7). I no longer have IE 6, but under the General Tab you will see a button that will take you to an area to delete cookies. 0 -
Go to Control Panel > Internet options
You can delete cookies and your temp files.0 -

I found these cookies from porn sites in my computer.
I swear I don't know how they got there...must be a hacker or something.[:D]

you may also want to defragment your files. go to control panel preformance and maintenance , rearrange items on hard drive, analyze 0 -
