Think you are right Franc...38A with round fenders came in late '52 IIRC. Unless the plant made them in early and didnt release them to the military until 52/53.

The M-38 was built between 1950 and 1952 and still had the flat fenders.

The M-38A1's were introduced in 1952 with the rounded fenders based on the CJ's.
