Time For Scotch???
Yummy, I think its time for a couple of fingers of your favorite scotch! What do you think? What is the best scotch?

Badwrench! Talisker, 30 year old cask strength. Runs about $400 or so a bottle, if you can find it. Had some at a whisky tasting.
Yikes! $400 per bottle, thats a bit steep for my budget. Your gettin into ZipperZap territory with that price.[:0][:0][:D]0 -
I like the blended Scotch. Pinch. Then again I have never turned down a glass of good single malt as well. [8D] 0 -
Several years ago, I was at a special smokers' night in Manhattan courtesy of a high-end vendor. Along with appetizers, cocktails, drinks and hand-rolled cigars, they also served some of the most exotic and more aged liquers along with 150+ year-old Scotch. Oh my!!!![:p] 0 -

That would be a heck of a thrill! I have heard that these "smoker lounges" have some serious events sometimes. They have one in Las Vegas from time to time.0 -
The bottle was that old hand blown uneven glass with a carved cork and you could still read some of the hand written paper label. The bartender treated it like it was newborn baby and commented that he travels all over the USA with these special liquers, making sure that temperature, shock, daylight, etc. do not get a chance to ruin them. When they're gone, they're gone. 0 -

I won't deny that it's an aquired taste. My first few times drinking scotch I swore I'd never touch it again. I'd still take an average Bourbon over top shelf scotch anyday though.0 -
For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the best scotch I ever had but I remember where and I definately remember the taste. It was in Iraq in 2005, one of the guys bought a bootleg bottle from a civilian for $40 he came and got me and we cracked the seal I expected crap to pour forth however I was more than pleasantly surprised when the smoothest scotch I had ever tasted touched my palate. no burn at all just silk, and that real pleasant warmth that only a truly good spirit can crete. damm I wish I could remember the name.[:(] 0 -
I've moved to Macallan when it comes to scotch.
A good scotch I have now, is an 18 year old Macallan, Special reserve, cask strength, single malt Speyside whisky.
The one I have, was sold to a company called Duncal Taylor, who buys the best whiskies by the barrel and bottles it.
They label it with the distillery's name and info, but also puts on their own name.

The best one I've had, is a 2000+ dollar (1/4gallon) whisky.
It was a 40 year old, special reserve, special edition, cask strength, signed, dated and numbered by the bottler and owner.
It was a Whyte & MacKay - one of 1000 bottles ever made.

My preference all my life has been Johnny Walker Red. A few years ago someone gave me a bottle of one called (sp?) Usquebach in a stone bottle. Way too smoky for my taste. Even Johnny Walker Black too smoky. Guess I'll stick with the blended Red. 0 -

Johnnie Walker Blue is a real treat IMO. Before becoming a cognac drinker, I drank Johnnie Walker Black.0 -
"The Dalmore Cigar Malt" is good, but regular "The Dalmore" is slightly better in my opinion.
As for a reasonably priced, fine flavored single-malt, I prefer "The Speyburn" to any other.[^][;)]0 -
I do Scotch every so often... but I prefer vokda.
Gimme a bottle of Colorado(tm) Vodka (tastes exactly like Grey Goose but at 1/3rd the price) and a couple options to mix in and a glass or four, and I'll make my own party.0 -
I have never met a scotch I thought was drinkable. Nasty peat filtered stuff tastes like distilled locker room.
Make mine rye, Kentucky sour mash or bourbon. Even Irish whiskey. Or my favorite, rum. Rum is the drink of choice for non drinkers like me.0 -
gin tastes like hair spray, brandy is too sweet, bourbon is too sweet, whiskey is little better, vodka tastes too much like alcohol, rum is too sugary, scotch is just right. 0 -

Common name scotch like Dewars, Cutty Shark, and Clan MacGregor aren't too bad either.
I've had Passport Blended Scotch. Tasted like rancid monkey piss. Stay away.
Drambuie is also a good sipper. It's a honey and herb flavored blended scotch.0 -
I can usually find time for scotch...Between shots of vodka! Macallen remains my favorite but I did buy a bottle of The Famous Grouse blended, which was suggested to me by Beachmaster and found it to be very good for it's price. An very nice single malt scotch is The Balvenie doublewood, which is a 12 year old scotch that has been aged in two casks; the first a traditional whisky cask followed by additional aging in a sherry cask. The second cask really imparts a special flavor to the scotch which is much different from most single malts. Other single malts which I keep around (and which are fairly priced) are Lismore, Speyburn, The Glenlivet and Finlaggan. Chivas Regal is a decent blended scotch. 0 -

The wife and I keep either Chivas Regal or Famous Grouse as the day to day scotch and keep the cigar malt for special occasions.
I have noticed that Macallen has a bunch of different aged scotchs, which do you buy?
It is interesting that in Oregon the larger bottle of Chivas Regal goes for $68.95 at the state controlled stores. At costco in Los Angeles we bought the same bottle for $50. One heck of a markup in Oregon for taxes.[:(]0 -
Yes, absolutely time for scotch! I am fond of Macallen and GlenLivet. But i'll trip off into a blend on occassion. Blue label is fine, as is Chivas' Royal Salute. Just cover the ice shards and splash on a bit of water....
Try it with a bite of dark chocolate for dessert.0
