Do cops carry their shotgun with one in the chamber?

    Officer Fires Weapon Accidentally

Los Angeles: A Los Angeles Police Department officer accidentally discharged a shotgun in the West Valley police parking structure on August 16, 2007.

At about 4:15 p.m., Officer Geoffrey Carlson was conducting a safety check prior to deploying the shotgun into the police vehicle when it accidentally fired one shot into the ceiling.

    There were no injuries.

West Valley Detectives are handling the investigation.

Officer Carlson is 29 years old and has been with the Department for over 2 years.

Since when did firearms discharge themselves!

Sorry, but this is a sore spot of mine. The way that this is written, it makes it seem like the shotgun "just went off". I don't know how many times I have had this arguement with gun-grabbers. They all want to believe that guns are evil and that they have some conscience evil will to fire at innocents.
The officer in question fired the weapon. That sentence should read:
"Officer Geoffrey Carlson was conductin as safety check prior to deploying the shotgun into the police vehicle when HE accidentally fired one shot into the ceiling."

    Thank you. I agree 110%.

This is more common than you would think. It just never makes the newspaper.
