Santa Fe Police Department looking into hiring Mexican nationals (10 a.m.)

SANTA FE (AP) - The Santa Fe Police Department is considering the possibility of recruiting Mexican nationals to fill vacant police jobs.

Sgts. Gillian Alessio and Marvin Paulk, who are in charge of the department's recruiting and training, said Tuesday they are considering alternative approaches to fill 20 vacancies on the city's 155-person police force.

But Police Chief Eric Johnson said New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy regulations prohibit non-citizens from serving as police officers.

Alessio said the Santa Fe police force, like others around the country, is vying to recruit the same 21- to 30-year-olds as the U.S. military, whose need for recruits is taking a toll on the police department.

"Every day, we get approached by young men and women from Mexico who are in the country legally but are not naturalized," Alessio said.

"There is a huge pool of people who are dedicated, hardworking and trying to become citizens of this country. They would like nothing better than to devote their time to protecting the communities that they live in," she said.

The United States speeds up naturalization for foreigners who enlist in the U.S. military, and Alessio asked, "Why can't we do that with law enforcement?"

If the sergeants actually suggested that, they could be fired and I would lose no sleep over it.

I am thoroughly sick and tired of all things Mexican, legal, or not.[:(!]

Oh BS!!! What'd they do during WWII when the military was about 3 times the size it is currently and we had half the population?

About 0.3% of the country is US military.

It sounds like a lame excuse for offering low pay and the Mexicans are the only ones willing to risk their lives for it.

You have to remember that Fanta Se is a "Sanctuary City", as is Las Cruces, Gallup, Grants, Alamogordo and Las Vegas.
The term means that ZERO public moneys will be spent enforcing ANY Federal Statutes concerning immigration, illegal aliens, or checking IDs of people applying for Public Benefits.
The voters approved a bill last year to allow illegal aliens to buy and own property in nM, and the Governor, one Bill "I can't believe they bought it"Richardson (you might remember him; he's running for Prez)passed an Executive Order that allows illegal aliens to receive Drivers' Licenses without any of that rigamarole like testing driving skill or comprehension of English signage.

The PD wants to hire some of the 120,000 illegals to keep them off the streets, where they extort money from tourists, block traffic, steal food & drinks, lounge in ERs and bus benches, and generally ACT like Santa Fe cops.

These same cops couldn't solve a murder case (Robbie Romero) where it was obvious to everyone in the state that the big brother killed him, and hid the body in the dump. Even after the chief was replaced, they couldn't find the evidence that would have locked the brother away.
PDs in this state are often "helped" in their investigations by the state's Atty. Gen.; who can make things vanish or reappear, depending directly upon how much the case can aid re-election.
The whole town is bought and paid for by Hollywood types that drive up property taxes to chase out the "locals".

Mateo, maybe you need to spend some time here and see how many illegals are now "native new Mexicans". Bet we got more than you do!

Sante Fe has nothing to worry about. Soon there will be 14 million new prospective legal officers to hire. The best part is none of them will have a criminal background because there is nothing illegal about breaking immigration laws. They even have a Presidential Pardon !!!

Its funny they are in every city in the US. I was recently in Ohio, Indiana, and Kansas. I saw them in every town I was in and locals are all complaining, except the people taking advantage of the cheap labor.
