    Nighthawk,
I found out I had Type 2 Diabetes a couple years ago. Same as you I was feeling run down, blurry vision, etc. and one day I got to feeling so bad I left work around noon. By 6PM I was so bad I thought I was having a heart attack and called my brother who took me to the ER. By the time we got there I was unconcious and had a BS of 832! Since then I've been on a drug called Metformin and watch my diet closely. My BS runs from mid 90s on the low side to 150 on the high side and most of the time it's 110-120. I've never been more than maybe a few lbs. overweight so I'm guessing it's DNA, there's several in my family with diabetes. In any case hopefully yours can be controlled without injections also. It's a downer, but certainly not the end of your World if you do the right things. Good Luck.

Quit drinking the soda NOW,........and that includes the so-called "diet soda".
New studies are showing that they cause similar blood glucose spikes, as the real thing.
Learn to drink water, whether you like it or not, and learn to like unsweet tea with lemon.
If you consume alcohol, it is time to quit that also.
Your life is more important than a stinking soda, beer, or bowl of ice cream.
I know a number of folks that have died, or had their lives changed dramatically from diabetes.
Ask Loko383, what he thinks sometime,......you'll quit fast!
    Just do it!!

I had elevated blood sugar a while back. Cut the regular sodas, lost 5lbs and my sugar returned to normal.

Try the drinks sweetened with Splenda.

    Diet Coke with Splenda
    Coke Zero
    7UP Plus.
Diet Mountain Dew is even pretty good.

It's one of the best things you can do for your body.

    Good luck.

Hang in there Nighthawk! Starting insulin is NOT a death sentence. I have taken it for years now, and am doing great. Started on a pump a few months ago. That was a BIG change, being hooked up to something like that all the time. Just remember: YOU control your diabetes. It's not like you can take a pill or shot and forget about it. It is ALL up to you and the choices you make. If I can do it, you can! I will lift you in my prayers!! Let me know if you have any questions or I can do anything to help.

PS..watch out for that metformin. It has some bad side affects in some people.

They will try diet and pills first. Unless your blood sugar is over 500. They will test your liver and kidney out put also.

    No more alcohol for you!

Hawk- more of us around here than you thought- huh? It is not a death sentence- but you will need to learn to manage it. Has been properly called diabetes of the BODY. Pay attention to eyes, kidneys, feet. Not just the blood sugar. Switched to Diet Pepsi, in 30 days, you don't miss high test at all. Use Splenda in coffee. Pay attention to total carbohydrates (yeah, I love bread too. You can still have- in moderation) And I dropped a bunch of weight. Sugar staying right around 95-105. You don't have mail from me, but you sure got company.

Sorry to hear that...If I HAD to change from regular to diet drinks I'd say to hell with it and just start drinking water only...
In fact I think I'd just do an entire diet make-over... Hell look at what we feed our dogs...and they can still smile!!!!
It all comes out as poop anyway....My stepdad had the same problem...broke the rules and now he is dead...
You are one of my favrorite posters here ....stick around for sixty or seventy more years dude!!!

Thank you all for the encouragment and well wishes. tobefree, thank you I consider that to be a great honor. I dont drink beer or coffee but I sure put the soft drinks away. I slept today and only drank about 3 drinks of Diet Coke[xx(] when my wife came home we checked it and it was around 100. Then I ate 2 pieces of pizza and drank a soda then checked my blood sugar an hour later and it was 330. I feel pretty rough now I dont know if I can hold out until Monday or not. Another problem is my Dr. isnt affiliated with a hospital he only see's patients in his office so I may have to find another Dr. This is the first time in my life Ive felt like a coward, its hard to admit but I have looked over text book symptoms to avoid facing it. But now I have faced it and hope to put up a fight, my career will be blown, but maybe I can get on with the circus, LOL.

It's going to spike for a few hours after you eat. Once you get into a regimen/diet You try to get a fasting (8 hrs or so usually first thing in the morning)check it a couple of hours after eating, then before going to bed. The idea is to keep a regular schedule on (approved) meals and checks to establish where your particular type is going to run and then the doc will adjust your meds. This may take a little time. But everybodys metabolism is a little different, there is no "cut and dried" treatment that fits everybody. You may end up seeing a specialist as some GP's aren't "up" on current treatments.
If you are showing any pancreatic insulin production it may not be necessary for you to start on the needle.
Stress, headcolds, allergys, little things like that can also cause higher BG levels.

BTW pizza is a no-no for diabetics.(unless homemade thincrust made especially for them.) It's the bread/pasta thing.
NO cheating allowed! You'll get used to it quickly!

Oh and welcome to the "group" [:(]

Hang in there, bud! It's going to take some getting used to, but if you keep close track and watch what you eat, you can still lead a long healthy life. I've been on 5 shots a day for 18 years, and I'm healthy as a horse! [;)]
