I like the SKS but am not charmed with the caliber. I'd like it better in 6mm PPC or 6.5 Souper with an ergonomically designed graphite stock and a reflex sight.
Since charging these things is a pain, an AK mag conversion would complete the upgrade.
For military use I'd leave on the spike bayonet. It was a smart feature.0 -

looks great. I love my SKS, but going with that stock probably went a little to far. But to each his own 0
