CCL ...
I got mine today!
The official law didn't take effect until January 1 and applicants were told it could take six months after that before you got your license ... so I didn't get into a big hurry to turn in my packet, but I ended up taking longer than I intended to.
I took the class back in October and and didn't get the paperwork turned in until January 2nd ... received my okie-dokie from the state yesterday (a total of 52 days) and got my temporary license today, they'll mail out the permanente one in a couple weeks [:)]
Its not that I'll probably ever "carry", but I can if I want ... legally.
The CCL was something that for a long time I wasn't going to do, but then I decided that a lot people have been actively fighting to get this passed for over 10 years ... to not get it would be like saying their work didn't matter ... this is the first real step forward for gun owners that I've ever personally witnessed.

I too thought I would hardly ever carry. Now I find that I carry most all the time.0 -
Have you heard if Kansas will reciprocate with other states? I will be going to Kansas in May and am curious if I will be able to carry there. Don 0 -

It just doesn't seem to be worth the time or money to get a CCL here is ST. Louis. As soon as the law passed, just about every business I can think of posted "no firearms allowed" signs on their doors. So I guess the only place you can carry is outdoors or in your vehicle. 0 -

But you had better start checking, several citys are trying to change the ccw and make it illegal in their towns to carry. It would be like a Kangaroo courts, I've lived in Johnson county for over 35 years and I couldn't tell you where Overland Park, Lenexa starts let alone someone from another state.
Proponents that testified were Senator Phil Journey, Representative Candy Ruff, KSRA Lobbyist Paula Radcliff, AG Concealed Carry Unit Director Chuck Sexson, KBI Deputy Director Kyle Smith, KSA Representative Bill Freeman and Private Citizen and Business Owner Rob Davis.
Opponents that testified were Ed Klumpp from the Association of Chiefs of Police, Eric Sartorius from the City of Overland Park, Marci Knight from the City of Lenexa, Dale Goter from the City of Wichita and Sandy Jacquot from the League of Kansas Municipalities.
Even though Chuck Sexson and Kyle Smith were listed as Proponents, they only supported Sections 2, 3, 4, 5 & 8 of this bill and stated they remain neutral on the other sections. (Sections 1, 6 & 7 are the ones we permit holders are the most concerned with.) The other Proponents pointed out that this law pertains to CCH permit holders and not other persons who violate law by carrying without permits or who do not properly transport firearms. Phil Journey said he felt that the intent of the original bill, SB 418 was very clear and that the cities were not abiding by that intent.
The Opponents all claimed that the cities are not trying to circumvent the rights of Concealed Carry Permit holders. They all claimed that this bill would prevent them from prosecuting non-permit holders who have committed weapons violations. It was clear to all of us that they stood on shakey ground. If you read the ordinances that they have passed, that is not the issue at all. This was pointed out to the committee members by Senator Journey.
CALL YOU ELECTED REPRESENTIVE and tell them to support HB 2528 or you may have spent your ccw money for nothing.0 -

Pistoljim, I have seen some of these signs, though not many, and haven't been checked anywhere. I probably frequent different places , I'm 58, and don't run like I used to. As Kimberkid stated, it's a good thing to get a permit in support of the efforts of those who worked hard to get this right. In view of the gangstas here it's a good idea to carry in your vehicle, better safe than sorry, and you don't need a CCW to do that legally. More nice weather.[8D]0 -

Check your law, but in Texas they need to say more then that. I know they have to list the actual code of law and some other stuff to make it legal for you not to carry there.0 -
Hey--welcome to the club.
I got mine 4 years ago, figuring that the only reason I wanted one was to keep a pistol in my vehicle...now, I carry pretty much everywhere but work (where I can't--but there's always a weapon in my vehicle).
You may be amazed at how rapidly your holster collection multiplies now...0 -

Ignore them what can they do ,kick you out, ask you to leave they can't search you so how do they know what you have on your person.0 -

Kansas is reciprocal with several states, one of which is Oklahoma, however one of the main requirements is that the other state must have at least equal requirements to obtain a license as Kansas citizens ... for instance we are required to take an 8 hour course and pass a proficiency test, in addition to passing the backround check.
I can't carry at work, I usually pick my daughter up from grade school, so I can't carry there, most restraunts I frequent serve alcohol so I won't be able to carry then ... maybe its just because retailers are scared, it seems like just about every business or store I need to go into has the "no gun" sign posted ... maybe this will change as time goes on and the community gets used to it.
I don't know how it's all going to work out yet but we'll see. We did have a CCL holder from Oklahoma shoot a guy that was armed and robbing a gas station earlier this month, (or maybe it was in January) there has been some positive reaction already ... the police backed up the CCL holder as reported in the media and didn't hassel or try and file any charges aginst him ... so I think we'er off to a good start!0 -
