There was a guy on the news a few days ago that blamed the cold weather on global warming. So, they get to have it both ways. It has become a religion with most of them. There have been a few scientist lately that have been voicing concerns that they have created a monster that is getting out of control, and that all the rhetoric they have been screaming about global warming has gotten out of hand. They still believe that it exists, just not as bad or as dangerous as some are screaming about. 0 -

Frozen citrus crops in California. Recent sub-freezing temps in central Florida. Tons of snow dropped on Colorado in rapid succession. I'd say we still have evidence of the "global cooling" craze that was going around in the 1970's.
Digging under the tundra of Antarctica has revealed palm trees and lizard fossils. Only 3 percent of global-warming "pollutants" are actually created by mankind. Nature creates the rest. Mount Vesuvius threw more global-warming pollutants into the air when it blew than the entire history of the combustion engine.

The true science of "global Warming" all come down to what ever foundation gets the most grant money. Most of those "researchers" would be out of jobs if it weren't for our tax dollars.
And where does it state that the US has to take up the burden of combating global warming? Where does China and India come into the equation? China's industry pollutes the water so bad that their own people can't drink it even after it's been treated in water treatment plants. Just don't see them cutting back on CO2 immissions just to satisfy the west.0 -

Exactly. The Kyoto Treaty (sp?) is not an environmental treaty. It's global socialism masked as an environmental treaty. We "pollute" the air so much because we are in the business of feeding the rest of the world. America has done more to operate more cleanly and efficiently than most other industrialized nations considering the magnitude of our productivity. How many other nations like the ones you mentioned have gone so far as to mandate so many EPA laws. How many of those other nations require things like catalytic converters on their automobiles?
Liberals love to indulge in self-guilt because it makes them feel better about themselves. They somehow feel guilty about being prosperous so they do their self-imposed pennance by trying to make life harder for themselves and others. We'd be living in a hippie commune growing vegetables fertilized with their own fecal matter if they had it their way.0 -
If you look at the overall trend, since we began keeping weather records over a hundred years ago, the average temperatures have gone up two or three degrees. This period coincides with the industrial revolution and the wide use of fossil fuels. You will see extreme weather on both sides, but overall, the climate is warming. They have the recorded data to back up the claims.[:(] The fear is, that if it continues, we won't be able to reverse it. Our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will suffer from drought, famine, water scarcity, and other weather related problems. 0 -

I hope you are right, but seeing the world's consumption of fossil fuels and the such has me believing otherwise. I live in a highly industrialized area (petro-chemical plants), which spew junk into the air 24/7. I see the smog hovering over the city. I hear of the glaciers retreating. It's not just our country, but the world. I believe we have upset the balance of the world's ecosystems.
Most of my views are conservative, except when it comes to the environment. I think we are pi$$ing away our children's future.[:(]0 -

You are correct. I read an article that stated that the largest hole in the ozone layer is directly above a volcano. The Dupont co. was a huge contributor to the global warming threat. The reason they joined the "global warming" bandwagon was their patent was about to expire on R12 refrigerant. They claimed that the CFCS' were found to be harmful to the ozone. So they teamed up with the EPA to get R12 outlawed. Then they applied for the patent on the new "ozone friendly" refrigerant that is used today.0 -

peon--Don't get me wrong. I'm not about dumping junk into the air and the water if it isn't necessary. I have very strong beliefs when it comes to consumption of fossil fuels. Remember when everyone just assumed there would be a "fix" for the Y2K problem and nobody worried about it until it was upon us? Nothing major happened but, then again, nobody KNEW whether or not something bad was going to happen.
People are assuming that our great-great-great grandchildren will already have some kind of technology that will render fossil fuels obsolete. Our economic dependency on them is frightening. We may be a long ways off from running out of oil but it's going to bite someone in the butt. Why not strive to move ahead now so we can stop making terrorism-sponsoring nations wealthy with our dependency on them? OPEC members are only our friends because of the $$$ we spend. I'm guessing they'd just as soon take our $$$ and shoot us in the back by proxy with the assistance of a terrorist cell than truly be an ally to us although they do seem to be cooperating with financial leverage to slow Iran's nuclear progress.
Finally, I sold my pickup in 2003. It wasn't because of fuel costs because I could certainly afford it back then. I was on a hunting trip and thought about whether or not I NEEDED something that consumed that much fuel when there were so many sensible alternatives. I didn't have to do anything crazy like take my pickup truck off-road to get to my hunting destinations. I didn't even need a pickup truck to transport meat. I own a Honda Civic now. Yes, I have strapped a deer carcass to the factory spoiler. I also have a 150-quart cooler that will fit in the back seat because it's a sedan. I also get 2X's the fuel economy as my pickup truck. I was having a conversation in my office back in 2003 with a Green Party member. I'm not Green Party material and I felt his views were a little bit "out there" but some of his questions were poignant and stuck with me. He asked me why I owned a truck when I felt so strongly about conservation and my love for the outdoors when something like my Honda Civic would fit the bill just fine. I took it to heart and thought about it long and hard and I made the trade.
I know that some people NEED trucks or SUV's for one reason or another. However, there are a lot of people who own them simply because it's a status symbol or a symbol of their "manhood". I don't believe in laws that mandate my opinions but I do believe in using free speech and expression to alter the public attitude towards fossil fuel consumption. I encourage similar behavior by other conservation-minded people like so many hunters claim to be.
Why should someone who drives a "greener" vehicle (for lack of a better term) pay the same price for fuel as someone who drives an SUV for the sake of looking cool when they're the ones driving up the cost of that fuel? We're not talking about the price of beer or pretzels. We're talking about a limited resource that may be controlled by global economic factors and an organization called OPEC but we all need and use and consume that resource. It's about as important as the oxygen we breathe with regards to our ability to support a livelihood. I don't know too many people that would have the option to ride a bicycle to work in January.0 -

In my high school, they are showing and teaching Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth(sic) as FACT. The kids are freaked out. I downloaded the point by point rebuttal/refutation from the Competitive Enterprise Institute, they calmed down, but now their other teachers are mad at me. If anyone hasn't read this and is worried, CEI has good stuff on this issue. 0 -

I don't consider myself a genius, but I do think for myself. I respect your beliefs, but with what I see, my belief is that it looks like global warming is happening. It might just be a short cycle the Earth is in, but it's happening. I believe we are the cause of it. Man has a way of screwing things up.0 -
all you're getting right now is changing weather patterns. wait until some areas don't get any rainfall, farmers have to pay $$ for water to water their crops, ice melts and the sea level rises 20 feet. all you will see by that time is a few degrees higher average temp, it will still be 16 degrees where you're at but the planet will be completely screwed up. and you'll still be wondering how it got that way even though you still have to shovel snow. 0
