Did you ever see a mental health professional?
I did today and I took my gun in with me. [;)]
I work security at a Mental Health Board and went up to talk with the counselor today about pursuing a complaint against the local police department for blowing me off. A friend threatened suicide this weekend (after another committed suicide) and when we called the local police department they said we don't contact departments out of state. I had told the dispatcher that we didn't know who to call, he wanted to kill himself and we were desperate but he was in the next state over.
I drove to a suburb department and they bent over backwards getting a hold of the police in that area for me even though it was one state over to do a welfare check.
Then right before I went to see the counselor another friend (24 year old girl with baby) died of terminal cancer.
Two deaths and an attempted suicide were enough to make me say "hey I want to talk". He advised me to pursue a complaint against the police dispatcher. He also liked the letter to the chief of the suburban department I wrote, and showed him commending the people in the suburban department.
I bet it made the mental health professionals feel real safe that their security guy (who carries a gun) was in a couselling session with the LISW. [}:)]

That is not so far off. I know a guy who got depressed when 4 of his family members died and they decided he needed meds and was mentally ill.
For myself I just wanted to ask him a question about pursuing the complaint against the police department. I would think the police would have access to numbers of other departments easier than I would.0 -

Pickenup ,i think there's the same type of problems if you seek help for physical conditions and they get registrated somewhere...and then the insurancecompanys and the company you applie a job for stick their nose in things that's none of their business... 0 -

If you can ask the question, "Am I crazy?" then you're not.

I went through burn out 15 years ago and I was asked by the organization I work for to go in for a professional assessment. I did, but I thought it was a waste of money. Essentially, he said, "It sounds like you are burned out, no big deal, you need to take a break." He said that "after working at the same job for 22 years I needed a sabbatical break." So I did, and now I'm fine! Sabbatical breaks are a very good idea if your work field allows them. 0 -
Know someone who went to "councelors" and kept switching till she found one that told her what she wanted to hear. 0 -
Uh yeah, every day. how do ya think me and the 'ol'lady' met? the sad thing is, the voices have calmed, and now I feel abandoned and lonely. 0 -
my dad's a psychologist. he was telling me, why don't they teach the basic stuff in high school or something?? if everybody took a few classes on the basics, you could help yourself with more than half of the easy stuff. -like the stress yawaraki feels from the rough times he's having right now.
I mean, geez, they teach them more history or art or whatever than they'll ever use, how many classes did that take.0
