M-4 questions
I have a verbal agreement with a good friend of mine to buy his M-4 next time I am in town. Its a Bushmaster with Sure-Fire tac rails, Sure-Fire light, forend grip, 4 pos. stock, 200 Wolf rds, single point sling, Pelican case, and 3 mags.. Unfired for a grand. Now for the questions?
Does a .223 tumble in flight?
Are there accuracy issues with FMJ vs. HP?
Is Wolf ammo to harsh for this gun?
If not Wolf what ammo should I use?
I will use it mostly for plinking but also for coyotes and other varmints.

wolf will mess up the gun big time my colt will only eat about 30 rds then its a jam-o-magt. I shoot UMC/Remington 55 gr fmg. after you buy the gun go and buy a case of TANNERITE now thats FUN!!0 -
Does a .223 tumble in flight? Not if you match the correct rifling twist rate to the correct ammo.

Is Wolf ammo to harsh for this gun? I wouldn't use Wolf in an AR type rifle but if your friend is selling the rifle with some left over wolf the rifle has probably had Wolf ammo through it already.

If a .223 tumbled in flight then you got some screwed up loads. You'd see "keyholing" in your target and the .223 would NOT be very popular with long range precision shooting prarie dog hunters but it is. If you see one clean round hole in your target then it isn't "tumbling". I'd tend to think that even a mismatched bullet weight from a factory loading wouldn't do this. Wouldn't you have to produce a really screwed up handload for this effect?

I've had a 223 tumble in flight, but that was after I shot the barrel out of a mini14... about 3500 rounds, mostly rapid fire over a period of 2 years. 0 -
Tapped for funds? Go with a Tasco Pro-Point. I've seen a lot of them even on competition race guns. 0 -
...and if it does tumble, I don't think (my guess) it would in the 100 yards at a range. a friend of mine went to the Navy, he told me they told him the bullets tumble after 400 yards. I presume they meant the oldest 1/14 twist barrels w/ 55 gr, cuz even that sounds excessive. but you get the picture.
I think Wolf is steel case, and I think steel case is bad for the AR chamber, you need brass.
it'll work for plinking, but you could do better with a 20 inch barrel and you could probably save around 250 bucks over an M4 style with the toys.0 -

I ran 3 different brands of 55gr through a 1/7 barrel like what's probably on your M4, it didn't tumble at 100 yds but had poor accuracy, about 4-5" with a 4x scope on a bench rest. I should have been able to do about 2-3". so if it was that badly destabilized, using 55gr in a 1/7 probably would make it tumble farther out, at what range I don't know- leading to very poor accuracy.
use the right ammo!0
