    i need to buy a new computer. i have always had dell except for the one i am using now, which is an acer. i really dont care for the acer.
    i am looking at the dell INSPIRON 620 MT and the HP that is equal to the dell.
    the price for the HP is about $100 more than the Dell for the same thing
    which would you buy?

    When the motherboard goes bad in a computer is the processor bad or vise-versa? My computer quite working and was wondering.

    sometimes my mouse goes on full auto why does it do this?how can i stop it.i scanned my system w/ norton no viruses detected.

    i have windows vista.
    my problem is the other day where you log on and off was down if the lower left corner, now it is up in the upper right corner. i cant figure how to get it back down there
    any help appreciated

    Thanks to the help from a couple members here I found a power cord for the computer I have that runs the program DOSS. I have no idea what that is? Can you surf the net with that program? If so do you have desktop shortcuts like windows or how does it work? My nephew will love it if he can get on the internet with it.

    no, and no. if the fan goes out, the CPU fries, that can melt the motherboard also. but you'd know that when it happens.

    computer hardware is much more robust than people think. motherboards rarely (if ever) go bad.

    computer phone support will tell you the motherboard is bad just so they can get you off the phone and go to the next call. you replace the motherboard, still have the problem, wasted 2 weeks of your time and the company lost a few hundred $$ from the warranty work. the tech doesn't care. that's how it goes.

    The fan is still working(runs) on the processor. I tried a different power supply and also graphics card and it still sets there blank screened and the fan running on the motherboard. The motherboard must be getting some power to run the fan and with the fan running would the processor be fried? Would you try another processor or motherboard or just trash both? It is an ECS XP Sempron 2400+.

    I turned it on a couple days ago and it was like this. There was no storms and it did have a surge protector.

    Based on this and everything you've said below it, I'd check the monitor first. Even a dead computer will usually manage to throw some sort of garbage onto the screen.

    The most common problem with computers is bad power supplies. Companies install under amperage power supplies on most units you buy in the stores. Too much consumption eventually ruins it. One of the most common reasons for a computer to now start up and leave a blank black screen is a bad power supply. Now you say that you checked the power supply, did you check it with one that was of a higher power rating then your current one? What kind of computer do you have?


    Bad processors will do the following-
    cause errors in programs
    overheat
    shut the system down unexpectedly


    Bad motherboards will
    fail to get past the post screen
    cause errors in programs
    cause memory failers
    overheat
    pull more power then they are supposed to



    One thing that could cause your computer not to post, have you changed the battery one the motherboard?

    I have tried a new 350w power supply, another monitor, another graphics card and the computer other than run the processor fan will do nothing on the screen. I have not tried another battery. Also took all the cards out except the graphics card. The Computer motherboard is an ECS K7VTA3 with a Sempron 2400+ processor. I installed the motherboard less than 2 years ago. Also is does not make a sound as to access the Hard Drive or any other drive. Thanks for all the replies.

    Is it a gfx card that didnt come in it stock?

    This board doesn't have a graphics card built in. I had a 256 Nvidia card in the AGP slot that is on the board for only a graphics card placement.

    ECS motherboards are known in the computer world as junk. They are probably the most problem filled mb manufacturer on the planet. If it lasted two years, you are probably lucky.

    Do you know what posting is? If you took all the componets off, and it still didn't post, that will leave you with three things that you haven't checked. The motherboard, memory, and the CPU. You can check the memory if you have two different sticks, remove one stick and leave one in the number 1 or 0 slot. Then reverse the swap. The really only way to check the CPU is to put it into another computer and try it out, this might be impossible. Some with the motherboard. 350 Watt power supply is on the light side for a 2 year old computer, but, it should boot the computer up to the post screen at least.

    Finally, seeing that you have an ECS motherboard, well, I wouldn't even go through all the headache. I would just buy a new motherboard and be done with it, that also will probably mean buying new processor, video card, ram, high quality power supply, ect.

    yep. if you did all that, narrowed it down to either the mobo or cpu, -and you have el cheapos anyways- it's not worth your time to mess with it any more, even if they do work, cuz your time is $$. just go get a new mobo/cpu combo.
