'tis the season to-eat-yum-mies
old recipe book from the "women's auxilliary of sedgewickville, mo." here's the fun stuff.
FROZEN CORN
4 qt. raw corn
1 qt. water
1 cup sugar
4 heaping tsp salt
mix together and cook for 10 min, stirring often. freeze in cartons.
BOURBON SLUSH
1 cup sugar
2 cups tea
12 oz. frozen lemonade
6 0z. frozen orange juice
6 cups water
1-1/2 cup bourbon
stir together, put in containers and freeze 10 or 12 hours. stir once or twice while freezing. garnish with a cherry.
CHOCOLATE POPCORN
1-1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cup corn syrup
1/3 cup cold water
5 quarts popped corn
3 tbsp butter
3 squares chocolate
1 tsp vanilla
mix together everything except the popcorn. cook until it forms a hard ball in cold water. pour over popped corn. stir syrup well through corn and serve in chunks, rather than in balls.
OKLAHOMA CHEESE DIP
8 oz cream cheese
1 jar Old English cheese spread
1 tsp onion juice
2 dashes garlic salt
2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp chili powder
4 drops tabasco sauce
mix cheese at room temperature, then mix in the other ingredients.
COKE SALAD
1 large can Bing (dark) cherries, drained
1 large can crushed pineapple, drained
2 boxes lemon jello
8 oz coca cola
cool whip (optional)
pecans (optional)
bring juice from cherries and pineapple to a boil. add enough water to make 1 cup. dissolve jello in boiling juice and let set until it starts to gel. add Bing cherries and pineapple to jello and let set until it starts to get thick. add coca cola and let gel until firm. top with cool whip and pecans if desired.

1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup yellow corn meal
1 tbsp dry mustard
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 tbsp melted shortening
oil for deep frying
12 skewers
combine flour and other dry ingredients. ad milk, egg and shortening. mix until smooth.pour mixture into tall glass. put weiners on skewers. dip. deep fry until golden brown.
PIRATE STEAK
1 can beer
1/2 cup chili sauce
1/4 cup salad
2 tbsp dijon mustard
1/2 tsp red pepper sauce
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cloves of crushed garlic
3 lb beef steak, 1 to 1-1/2" thick
1/2 tsp pepper
mix all ingredients except steak, salt and pepper. simmer 30 min. brush meat with sauce. grill on medium heat. cook 15 minutes on each side, basting frequently with sauce. season with salt and pepper after turning and removing from grill. serve with remaining sauce.
BANANA BREAD
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
4 very ripe, mashed bananas
2 tsp hot water
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup dates (if desired)
1 scant tsp salt
cream shortening, sugar and eggs. sift together the dry ingredients. add water. mix in bananas. add dry ingredients until all is added. add nuts and dates. mix well. bake in loaf pan for 45 to 50 min. at 350 degrees.
FRUIT CAKE
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sour cream
1 egg, slightly beaten
1-1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped dry apricots
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup maraschino cherries
combine all of the dry i9ngredients and sift together once. combine sugar and sour cream; blend. add egg to the dry mixture. add nuts, raisins, cherries, and apricots; stir only until well blended. bake in a greased loaf pan for 1 hour or until done when tested with a toothpick in the center. bake at 325 degrees half the time and 350 degrees the rest of the time.
APPLE BROWNIES
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup chopped apple
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
cream sugar and butter. add beaten egg. sift together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and baking powder. add to creamed mixture. fold in apples and nuts. bake in a greased and floured 8" pan for 55 min. at 350 degrees.
BEER BREAD
3 cups self rise flour
3 tbsp sugar
1 can beer
put in greased pan. bake 25 min at 350. pour 1/2 stick of butter on top and bake another 30 min.
ELEPHANT STEW
1 elephant (medium size)
2 rabbits (optional)
salt and pepper
brown gravy to cover
cut elephant into bite size peices. add brown gravy and cook 14 hours at 350 degrees. this will serve 3,800 people. if more are expected, the two rabbits may be added, but do this only if necessary, as most people don't like hare in their stew.
