Anybody from North Dakota know what this is?
Near the Hwy 85 bridge over the Little Missouri river:

Near Williston, ND

Tourist traps? I'm saving gas by taking a virtual road trip, but I still keep getting lost.

The first pic looks like it could be a campground with parking spurs and drive thru spots. 0 -
The second pic is an abandoned airport.
The symbols show the traffic patterns for specific runways which you can still make out in the photo.0 -
Old Minuteman sites? 0 -
Oh No! A different set of aliens competting with those of the crop circles 0 -
#1. Abandoned missile site.
#2. Traffic pattern indicator for an airstrip (dirt runways).

I'm not from Williston, but i spend about 3-4 weeks per year (for the last 15 years) in that area of ND.
The first picture is just south of the Little Missouri River and Roosevelt Grasslands (west of Hwy 85). It looks like a camp ground just above the river. It is just off a Forest Service Road, but i have never been up that road to verify it.
The second picture is in Williston on the north end of town. It is Wright Field (airport). Not sure it is still used as the International Airport (paved)is just across the road and west of it. The Field is just southwest of the fairgrounds/race track.0 -
Thanks everybody, I never would have figured it out by myself...
Ya'll don't go anywhere, I'll have another batch of questions in a few minutes...I just crossed the border into Saskatchewan...[:o)]0 -

The lil white cross inna center is just a pointer onna computer.0 -
Hey, MrOrange.
Is that tag correct? Have you ever explored the area? I used to have an urban ruins website where some guys went down inside an abandoned missle silo. I'll have to see if i can find it.
Also saw where some people convert them into houses! That would be awsome, except the garage is a pain to get in and out of! [8D]0 -
I took a drive around the area, but I'm sad to say I've become too citified over the years and couldn't find the exact location. The most likely access points were all on private property in any case.
I've read that decommissioning this site was a bit of a pain, mainly due to the fuel stores there. Just for the generators there was something like 20,000 gallons of diesel.
Speaking of eminent domain, I always wondered how the construction of these sites went. One day a farmer wakes up and there's 20 big trucks with construction equipment in his driveway, and a fed standing on the porch saying "Mr. and Mrs. Smith? Yeah, I'm going to need you to just look out your back window for a few months..."0 -
i like to view aerial pictures, their great 0
