    The Lyman 48th edition says 1.275 OAL.

    The 230 gr TMJ is listed at 1.275 for reloading. Each bullet is different but it shows the max as 1.275.

    Why would he be having a problem with live rounds ejecting then?

    Everything on the gun checks out meassurment wise (Compairing it to mine as they are the same gun). I have never had a problem with this, but I only shoot factory loads. And his is also fine with factory loads. Now it will eject the same reloads while shooting, just not as a live round.

    What do you mean ejecting a live round. Getting a live round from the chamber manually?? if it doesnt then maybe his reloads casing have not been sized properly and it takes recoil to assist getting them out

    actually, {and i will here the naysayers on this}, you are not supposed to eject a live round through the slide on a 1911, you are supposed to eject it slowly and let it fall through the magazine port, tell your friend to stop doing it this way, you WILL break the extractor

    I agree. Have him check by dropping a round in the chamber and see if it is a force fit. Is he using the right size bullet? You can look at the brass and tell if its oversize with the bullet showing a ridge through the brass.

    Could also be an extractor problem. Clean it well and check it with a magnifer glass.

    In a good tight gun reloads using a bullet size over the 451 will swell the case just enough to cause extraction problems. Cast bullets I buy are .451-.454, I use the 451 in auto rounds and the .454 in the Long Colt rounds.
