If you thought you were getting a utility grade walnut stock and actually got a tiger maple stock, is that good or bad? I was a little disappointed but there's a chance I made out like a bandit or at least broke even.

  hey, if you get in touch with your local tree trimmer/logger, they've always got oak and stuff to throw away. I came across an awesome 4' thick oak busted in half from a storm (and smashed a house), I could have sawed it into chunks and sold it but too much time&effort... it went to the dump. I'm sure they'd take 30 bucks or whatever for a nice sized chunk, you could make a dozen stocks out of.
