Question for you dog experts
One of our dogs keeps dumping his water dish (3 or 4 times a day) so I keep having to go out to refill it to make sure he has water.
I am thinking of screwing it to a piece of plywood that will prevent him from doing this, but I would have to use some silicone over the screws to keep it from leaking after I do.
My Question is: Will the silicone cause any ill effects to the dog if I do this?

Not if you use food grade silicone.

Not exactly on topic, but related. If you're a dog owner and let your dogs inside the house, be carefull about "in the tank" toilet bowl cleaners also. 0 -

My dogs are outside dogs expecially now that we got a cat as of a couple days ago.
Both my dogs have gotten thier share of cats and any other critters that happen to get close enuff to were they are chained up![:D]
The other day I had to do away with a dead possum that was darn near as big as the dogs themselves (a little exaguration, but it was one big possum!)![:D]0 -

Aw man, you keep your dogs on chains? That's no life for a dog. I once had a good dog put to sleep rather than put him on a chain.

You could save yourself some trouble by getting a "non-tip" water bowl for your dog. Basically it just has a wide base which makes it near impossible to tip by stepping on it 0 -

I let them off the chain most every day for atleast a few hours. And while on the chain they are on those exersiser things and do have plenty of room to move around as the exersisers are 75 feet long and they got 20 feet side to side.
They have alot more room than if they were in a kennel!
And I keep them chained so they will not get hit by a car in the street as my property is big enuff that it would be near impossible to fence it all in.0 -

get a 5 gallon bucket strap it to the dogs house or a piece of rebar at the end of his chain,then you only have to change it every other day,buy them a baby pool maybe they like to play in the water or are extremely hot, who doesn't like to swim, GRD what breed are they? Loko[:D] 0 -

Aquarium sealant.
Did you think about making a stand for the water & food dish? Larger IIRC Seems like I read breeds can benfit from this.

I had the same problem w/the escape artist dumping his water. I just got a deep "bean pot" to use as his water bowl and dug a hole so that it was 1/2 below ground level. Poor folks has poor ways. 0 -

Very good idea, I have a baby pool for my German Shepard and she loves it. The weight of the water should prevent tipping as well0 -

They are basicaly MUTTS![:D]
I was told they were Lab & Hound when we got them, but they are not big enuff to anly have those two breeds in them as they only stand about 16" high at the shoulder.
I had thought about the 5 gal. bucket thing but he is not tall enuff to get the water out of it.
Niether of the dogs like water as far as playing in it, but I just might try the pool thing as it would be big enuff that both could reach it from thier chains and would mean only one water dish!0 -
Well My grandpa had a solution....he found a cool rock and got out his hammer and chisel ans made a forty pound water bowl that looked freaking awesome. 0 -

I said screw not nail.
The screws are used on metal roofs and come painted the same color to match the color of roofing.

Try securing it with heavy duty tent pegs
or get one this ...
and fill the hollow bottom with concrete.0 -
food grade/water grade silicone, or aquarium grade. Also, superglue is OK to use, salWar on Terrorer tank freaks use it to attach coral cuttings to "plugs" to mount on rocks, etc. 0 -

I have made two of those stands over the years. One was tall for my doberman and the other for this jack russell I have now. The doberman needed it so he didn't have to lean so far down. The jack russell will turn over a car if you don't watch him. Even with the stand he will root under it and flip it over. Make it out of pressure treated white pine and it should lasst forever. 0 -
i think i have seen some automatic waterersin some major pet stores . if that is to costly, find a dishpan ,make a 2x4 form about 4" bigger than the pan . get a bag of sacreet mix it up, grease the bottom and side of the pan and pour the concrete mix around it to the top of the pan . let dry,remove grease, wipe out pan, insert into concrete . problem solved 0
