Question about ammo and shooting
I like to shoot pistols inside when I can and I shoot mostly Brownbear JHP 380 and Silver bear fmj 9mm which are cheap and do a great job.
My Wife and I were shooting last night with a new female shooter and she had just bought a Firestorm 380 and I had got her some BB 380s and doing a great job and I ask a instructor to show her a few things. He was doing a great job and then made mention about the ammo, I told him I thought it would work great for trigger time to get to know the gun. He was telling her about better ammo and he shot both our FS 380's and they were all touching very nice pattern. He said well it shoot a little low, my question to you.
If your shooting 7 yards as if in a defensive seen and all are touching and the gun shoots BB JHP great what's wrong with it, I have shot it into sand and the expansion was great.
If the BG was very far away I don't think most people could hit them beyond 15 yards with a Smaller CCW pistol when under extreme pressure like a assault.
If it shoots good in the gun and has good expansion why is it bad, Now several in the group use the BB and have shot thousands of rounds of it in the Firestorms and just a few stovepipes like all ammo. Is expensive better or what, if you hit your target right it shouldn't make a difference. With My Health I have to shoot when I feel up to it and sometimes you have to use cheaper ammo than the pro's

Never used it, but wouldn't hesitate to.
You're right & he's wrong.
Sub-caliber weapons (Those that don't start with a "4") are not likely to need much, if any, expansion in a self defense firearm.

if it shoots good and groups good at distances that would be encountered during a self-defense situation then USE IT!!
Shot placement is the key!
Anyways, at that kind of range, just about any slug has enough energy to get the job done regardless if it expands or not. Yes personal protection HPs are nice but not always affordable.

If she is comfortable shooting it, I see no problem. I always practice with the cheap stuff and then load with the good stuff for hunting or defense.
Since the recoil changes with the hotter stuff, I will shoot a few rounds before the hunt, and every couple months to remember what I am doing.0 -

If the brown bear works, then use it. This instructor is the type of guy that thinks that you have to have the most expensive everything for it to work right. You know the type, the guy who has a custom rifle built in 338 Lapua and mounts a US Optics 5-25 power on it to hunt small deer from a stand. The truth is that you do not need the latest and greatest, use what works. 0 -
