I need to vent. Yeah, Yeah, I know, it?s a person
Yeah, Yeah, I know, It's a personal problem ? ? ?
I found out today I am still capable of emotional childish temper tantrums. I threw my rattle just like a squalling baby. I didn't actually raise my voice, but I think everybody knew I was displeased.
This evening I was already tired when I sat down to my evening bowl of gruel. I had just finished mowing the grass, which I do to keep her happy, and didn't really want to hear about making a trip to town. I was sweaty and tired, looking like a squirrel and smelling like a goat. The wife saw in the paper that the Advance Store was giving away "free stuff", ball caps, bags, etc., to celebrate their seventy-fifth anniversary.
The wife carries this "free stuff" thing to the point of insanity. If any place of business has a "grand opening", anniversary, holiday or any other occasion to "give away stuff", she is going to be there. If somebody was giving away sacks of chicken poop, she would be in line to get one.
Well, she wanted to go to the Advance Store to get some "free stuff". I knew I was down to two choices. I could suck it up and take her to the Advance Store or live with a pouting, angry and mean woman for at least two weeks. So we went to the Advance Store.
She went up to one of the sales people at the counter and told him what she wanted. He acted like he couldn't understand what she was talking about, and started coming off with the attitude and mouth, so I told him he had an advertisement in today's paper that they were giving away stuff and she wanted some. He gave me a look like he was wondering which gut wagon I fell off of, and said "We were hoping you would buy something." He took a couple of the bags from under the counter and started fidgeting with them to make sure he didn't give her more than one. I said, "I'll tell you what, you can keep the bag." The wife said "But I want one." I said "No--You don't." The salesman said "That suits me fine." We left.
When I got home, the only thing I had from Advance Store that was in the same condition I bought it was a case of Pennzoil HD30. The "mouth" wasn't there when I got back to Advance Store, so I returned it to the other salesman for a refund. He wanted to know why I was returning the oil, so I gave him the story and asked him to tell "mouth" I not only didn't buy anything, I brought something back and wouldn't be back to the store. He said he would tell him. He said he was sorry I felt that way. I said "Me too, I used to like this place."
Dealing with NAPA won't be quite as convenient, but at least they haven't pissed me off yet.

If I understand this correctly you and the spouse went to this retailer (which I do not think exists here in SoCal) for no purpose beyond getting some freebies and they failed to roll out the red carpet for you? Shocking to say the least. Mrs K loves these types of outings and usually take along daughter #2 (as well as daughter #1 when she is in town) but I am not going, that is for sure! I suppose if they were handing out McLaren-Mercedes caps I might haul my big ass out of the house, but not for a store brand tote bag. 0 -
I understand kristov's point. But I think the whole thing, handled with a bit more aplomb by the counter help, would've kept a customer. Life in retail requires thick calluses on ones tongue.
You know, from biting it.0 -
Life's a b*tch - live it.

From Illegals to Welfare Queen,
Everyone is jumping on the Mooch Machine!
Coming from near, coming from far,
Advance Auto has free stuff for your car.
Don't have to buy nuthin', but what a drag,
They have you goodies in a pretty bag.
James, Don't get mad or make a scene,
Everyone is jumping on the mooch machine.

kristov, you've pretty much got the picture. The funny thing is he is giving away those bags which I'm guessing cost him twenty-five or thirty cents each to promote goodwill with his customers. Before today, he already had my goodwill. Now I wouldn't do business with him at gunpoint. The oil I took back cost $35.03. I don't know what his markup is, but I figure he lost more than the cost of that stinking bag, not to mention a regular customer. I didn't ask him to rung a seventy-five year "free mooch" deal, but since he did, I don't want a ration of poop to go with it. 0 -
i don't blame you one bit. if his plan was to make a sale when giving a bag then it should have been advertized "free bag with purchase over $xx" his add was just to get you in the store for the free bag and hope you buy that day or come back when you do need something. this was very poor salemanship (if thats a word). 0 -
No respect. When I get breakfast burritos at McDonalds and ask for extra hot sauce, they act all jerky like it's coming out of their pocket. 0 -

Thanks Colonel Plink for the kind plug
This thread I'll try not to mug
I have fun making words like these rhyme
Whenever I have a little extra time
I really enjoy writing my girlfriend a card
Since the composing isn't that hard
Never written a poem or published a song
Maybe for Hallmark if the chance comes along
Gotta go now for the day
Workin' at the gunshop earns my pay.

I thought all rappers were black,
now I know, that's not a fact.
I don't know what started all this,
but white boys rhyming, that's too good to miss.
I hope I don't get poofed for saying black,
but if I do, I'll be back.

Customer service in this country is at an all-time low. Managers are crappy as hell - that is the root problem. Employees will always be employees, it takes a decent manager to increase the customer service skills of most employees.
I had a problem once in Best Buy with a 16 year old employee that would not shut the f up about selling me an extended warranty. I asked for the manager, he got the 17 year old "manager" who couldn't understand why I had such a problem with extended warranties (not the point). I left and have never bought anything from Best Buy since.0 -
Ya take freebies way too seriously. I do want you to know that you are special, unique, and deserving of much extra attention and petting. Just like everyone else. 0 -
your wife wanted some free stuff,
you got there and left in a huff and a puff,
you went back home to get the oil,
because a big mouth, made your blood boil,
now the stores out, 35 bucks
and you and your wife,
know there store sucks![:D]0 -

james, youre too old and valuable to get upset. now go weed something and sharpen your lawnmower blade!
then run over the free bag.0 -
I spent about 3 months working for Advance....what a f888ing joke of a parts store. They are more interested in you greeting evry customer that rolls thru the door than your knowledge of cars and parts.
Seems the auto parts stores of today are more interested in selling curb feelers than carburetors. Back in the day when I worked for Hi-Lo, you had better know your stuff. We actually had training sessions on the parts we sold; how they work, differences in quality, cross referencing, etc...
The yahoo's behind the counters nowadays could even begin to understand the concept of valve timing and why it's important.0
