I would like to think that I would but never having been in a situation like that I don't know what I would do. I read a book written by a WW2 Infantryman and he said that he surprised how his fellow riflemen reacted once they got into combat. He said the guy's that did well in training and who everyone thought would be hero's once in combat fell apart. The quiet guy's that struggled in training turned out to be the real hero's once the shooting started. I don't think anyone really knows how they would react. 0 -

I am sure I would have been a casualty. I would not risk breaking the law and lossing what gun rights I do have. But I think i would of had the courage to throw somthing back. I do have a knowledge of firearms so i know when the slide locks he has to reload. I cant say if i would have bull rushed him or shat myself if just dont know. 0 -

Doug... I am a law abiding person...
I clown around on this site and play the fool. Fact is, I fought hard for CCW in Ohio. Keith Faber and I exchanged several emails on the subject after he wrote the law and we watched it butchered by his fellow congressmen... I will not risk taking a step backwards in this fight by purposely breaking the law. Ohio CCW is improving and I hope that eyes will open and it will continue to improve.
Yea, I know it is foolish to not go packin' because there is no safe place. But I'll not be the one to harm CCW by walking into a school with a loaded gun and making national news while at the same time loosing my freedom and my right to protect myself.
The best I can do today is point out the fact that gunman killed the first five to ten people... fools like Diane Feinstein... killed the rest...
And if I hope that if in fact I happen to die because I was not permitted do defend myself, I would hope that each of you would not blame the shooter, but put the blame on those that are trully responsible....0 -

We should hold the shooter responsable as well as those who denied you the right not to be a victim.
I fortunately (due to my occupation) can and do carry every where. I guess I would just fall back on my training and will to survive and do what comes natural (squeeze, squeeze, squeeze, bang! and repeat).0 -
It sounds like there is a misconception on VA law. There is no law in Va against carrying on college campuses, except VCU down in Richmond, and that is just a trespass violation, not a gun violation. The campuses may put admin rules in place to stop their students and employees from carrying and all they do is kick them out or fire them. The school property law is only K-12 schools.
Places prohibited:
* No person shall carry a concealed handgun onto the premises of any restaurant or club as defined in ?4.1-100 for which a license to sell and serve alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption has been granted by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board under Title 4.1 of the Code of Virginia, nothing herein shall prohibit any owner or event sponsor or his employees from carrying a concealed handgun while on duty at such restaurant or club if such person has a concealed handgun permit.
* Private property when prohibited by the owner of the property, or where posted as prohibited. Violation is a trespass charge and not a firearms violation
* Carrying dangerous weapon to place of religious worship while a meeting for religious purposes is being held unless you have "good and sufficient reason." Violation is a minor crime, punishible by a fine of up to $100.
* Courthouse. Violation is a high-level misdemeanor
* School property/school functions unless gun is unloaded, in an enclosed container (but NOT in the glove box or console) and in the vehicle. A car's trunk is considered an enclosed container. However, a concealed handgun permit holder can have a loaded, concealed handgun in the vehicle while in the school parking lot, traffic circle, etc. The concealed handgun and the permit holder must stay in the vehicle. Firearms are not banned from property open to the public where a school function is being held unless that property is being used exclusively for the school function. Violation of this statute is a felony
* Virginia Commonwealth University (8VAC90-10-50). Violation is a trespass charge
* Non-secure areas of airport terminals are off limits unless you are a passenger and you have your gun unloaded, in a locked container in your checked luggage, and declare the gun at the check-in counter. Violation is a high-level misdemeanor.
As for the original question, I would have. I came close enough several times when I was a cop not to doubt I could do it.0 -

Sure, had I been there, been unarmed, and known then what I know now--that the SOB was going to kill everyone within reach execution style--I would have rushed him, hoping that enough others would follow that someone would have reached him and stopped him. If I have to die, I would rather die fighting than cowering, but since I wouldn't have had the benefit of foreknowledge at the time, I might have just lain down and played dead, praying that he wouldn't get me. 0 -

There ain't one of us that don't know that if we only had the chance to take that shot things might have turned out so very differently. I wish I could have been there right beside you... But even more I wish some of those folks had had the opertunity to handle it themselves. You may have a true paradox for you are right yet you are wrong. Which means I am too... Had I been armed, there is no doubt I would have shot it out with this little punk.
Had I been unarmed, I like to think I would have rushed the guy while he was changing mags, or when he had his back to me. In the French class, he walked in and shot the teacher dead. All the students hit the floor and cowered in the fetal position. The guy walked down the aisle and shot at everyone, got to the back of the class, and walked up the aisle and shot at every one else while he walked back to the front. Only two students were not hit.
When I was a college junior I was 6-3 and 200, I was in great shape and was on the college soccer team. I had had a year of karate and had been in a lot of fights. This was a small Korean man, cerainly when his back was to me I could have overpowered him.
I just can't see that I would have cowered on the floor and waited for my turn to get shot.
Now, had there been two shooters, as in Columbine, and one guy was standing at the front of the room covering everyone with a shotgun, while the other guy walked the aisles shooting, you are just screwed.0 -

The only place I don't carry a gun is where they have metal detectors or they're going to frisk me.
How on earth is anyone going to know you have a gun on you if it's concealed unless you need to use it. And if I need to use it then I don't give a damn for the whole world knowing about it then! It's a hell of a lot easier to get out of jail than it is to get out of a grave.
I can tell you had I been there and that $#!+ head pulled a gun on me he would have found out real quick that shooting at someone that's shooting back is nothing at all like shooting at pinned up frightened unarmed sheep. [:(!]

I disagree.....the intial tactical advantage goes to the attacker.
Its going to take a few seconds for your brain to process what is happening. I don't think a CCW in the first room would have made much of a difference initially.
Once alerted to the danger, the advantage shifts away from the attacker....0 -
I do think that if you were in a room when the young man came in and was in the process of killing one student after another you would be able to draw and fire while his attention was locked on to his next target.
If he came into the room and fired at you first you would be in big trouble. Most likely you would not be able to react quickly enough to save yourself in a surprise attack.0 -
