90% of the time, PT is so when shtf, troops can run.
if 60 year olds were in, theyd all walk or get caught after having a heart attack.
YOU GO hump a 100 lb pack! i'll watch!
60 year olds dont heal as fast. 1 week in the bush, would require a month to recoop....let alone a wound.
eye sight is crucial....blue wire red wire? booom.
thinking about sex with sweety is sometimes what makes a man fight better and want to stay alive longer.
reaction time is crucial. young kids dont think about the moral issue of killing. older people start to doubt the ill's of war....after seeing so much of it.

no, i say burn out the young kids. they can recover easier. trust me, the military has thought this out. its why youre considered an old man at 38.[;)]

the only positive thing for over 60's going to war would be after 40 years of marriage, some might pray for a chance at death.[:X]

I don't see why older guys couldn't go help out on non-combat duties, just like the seebee's of WW-2.
I'm a truck driver and I'd vollenteer to go, except for 1 thing. They won't let me be armed.
I'll be damned if I'll vollintarily go into a hostle war zone unarmed. The Seebee's were armed.

last i checked, a man is only allowed to reach 55 with retirement, making max recruiting age for enlisted, 35.

    officers have no age limit.

another reason old guys wont go into service is by the time they reach 60, they have achieved a level of employee value. there isnt a swinging richard whos gonna work for an E1's wage at 60. its less than welfare.

The reason most soldiers are 18 is the older one gets the more sense one has to know war is for those with no sense.

If every soldier on both sides were 60 they would call the other side up and blame the ones responsible and go get the politicians hang their sorry butts and make peace.

At 58 I have no desire to go tromping around the hills of Afghanistan.
Put me in an air conditioned blind with a .338 Lapua sniper and nothing within 2000 meters would live.
Ask me to leave and hike through the hills would add you to my one shot one kill list!!

No, the older one gets the more sense one has and few with such sense watches the last 15 minutes of Saving Private Ryan and says wooeee that looks like fun!

I prefer CoD2. War without a reset button is stupid!

We did and we are. I was 49 and my boss was 56. We had several near 60 and we also had one who was a Viet Nam vet. So yes, old farts can and do serve.

By that time he should at least be E4p[:)] and don't forget they get extra pay for Time-In-Grade, an e4 with lots of time in grade can make as much as a junior officer.
