Try putting it in a positive tone:
"We comply with all federal laws concerning employment of legal US residents."

Of course that doesn't have quite the same ring as "If you're illegal, you ain't working here!"

You might want a tag line like the following which might gain you new customers while anything stronger might lose them too: An Equal Opportunity and American Citizen Employer.

OK, how about.....UP WITH VETS DOWN WITH WETS

    or

    WE HIRE VETS NOT WETS

Of course, it doesn't have to be a veteran, I guess, just a legal resident. [:)][:)]

Just do your advertisement and add "Illegal aliens need not apply". Nothing wrong with that.....[:)][:)]

I could say "American owned and operated" I was told that was safe... But that doesnt make my point.

Please clarify your point for me. Are you saying '"Irish" need not apply' or are you saying, "We're better than businesses who hire undocumented aliens" ?

edit = hm, I didn't know that weetback was a censored term here....

If that's your mind set...then you will be getting closer to your "target market". I say yes, do it. I just bet that you'll get more business but be weary of retaliation.[:0][;)]

I applaud you for wanting to keep a high standard for your business.

Just put whatever you want that indicates you don't hire illegal aliens... such as:

    Illegal aliens need not apply.

    US citizens only.

Will not accept applications from illegal aliens.

    or my personal favorite...

    "Yo no hiro illego alienos!"

i would say "we dont hire hispanic illegal aliens and we dont hire 21 yr old muslim men from arab countries who are over-staying their fraudulently obtained student visa while they take flight lessons"

+2 You certainly don't want to lose business through backlash, so keep it positive. American owned etc. sound like a flea bag mom and pop motel making sure you know it is not run by Indians or Pakistanis.

    Include in the ad;

    "We do not speak Spanish"

    Says a lot.

    Thanks---Peabo..

We just got the new phone book, it came the same day as the recycling and I put it right into the paper recycle bin. I am not sure how many people still use the phone book.

In addition to "we adhere to all Federal laws when it comes to"...etc

Indicate that drug testing is mandatory for employment. No one can complain about the drug issue, and not sound rediculous. Best, Joe

I like American owned and operated....it says "I care about this issue" without giving a defensive tone to things.

NO WAY..."OWNED AND OPERATED" simply implies that the owner is an "American" and that the management is "AMERICAN".Here, in south Florida, almost every corp. makes that claim. Yet the crew that comes to the job-sight is all Guatamalan. If you want to say "we dont hire illeagl alians, u need to SAY IT!!

"DRUG FREE,ILLEAGL ALIEN FREE" says it, in no uncertain terms..

I like stinkfoot's "No Wet Backs!" idea.

Think about it. The Messicans will surely stage a protest at your business. They'll get violent, perhaps breaking a window or shooting up your store.

That would be a good thing. The illegal loving media will pick up the story, going nation wide with it.

That in turn will give you publicity far greater than a yellow page ad. Then, all the real Americans will flock to your store and buy, buy, buy. Making you a rich man.[:D]

"Equal Opportunity Employer" is a standard phrase. Say it(and the entire ad) in English!

+3 you also don't want to ...alienate...LOL...the hispanic population that are legitimate business people here in the US.

I am in the building material industry and have found that there are many very good hispanic builders and subcontractors here that run great businesses.

As a fellow Houstonian i applaud you for your effort.
We both know just how many of these people now reside here.
So since we are talking about business which earns you your livelyhood one can get his point across without rankling the PC set.
So we also must understand that people with a legal green card have to VERY same rights to employment as every American citiizen so one must be careful in the wording less he end up dealing with some prick government EEOC attorney.
So saying we comply totally with U.S hiring laws coupled in with American owned and operated pretty much gets you where you want.
