need info help for project
I have been building a wheelchair ramp for my Aunt and Uncle near Tampa and have it just about done. I can not find anything to use for the hand rail except wood and I don't want to use wood for splinters. I bought for myself some composit hand rail that I used to go down to my boat dock a couple of years ago and now I want to find the same stuff and I can't. I have been to home depot and lowe's and they both say they don't carry it. I can't remember where I bought it. Also they are trying to sell me what they call a hand rail but it is the top rail of the railing that the banisters fasten to. I want the hand rail like everybody uses to go up and down stairs with in your house but made for exterior. I need to put one at 24 in. and another one at 36 in. so somebody in a wheelchair can use them to help them up the ramp. If I could find vinyl coated pipe in 20 ft. length and 1 1/2 dia. I could use that. Does anybody have another idea. Gary

Go to your local muffler shop and explain your predicament.
Give them measurements, pipe diameter...and whalla.
2" exhaust pipe should be just fine.0 -
If you have a place that does boat docks, check with them.
I have a place near me that specializes in boat docks and can check with them on monday if you would like me too.
Most good quality boat dock do use the composit railing that you are talking about.0 -
Near Tampa and cant find Hardi-Plank with all the boat docks and water front property, I cant be live its not readily avaliable. Try calling a local contractor who would builds boat docks and decks, and see what his source is. 0 -

I have the whole deck and wheelchair ramp built with pressure treated lumber and the only thing left is the hand rail. I thought about the tailpipe thing and I think that it would get very hot out in the sun for someone to hold onto, but a good thought. 0 -

PVC pipe would be a good idea. Would it be strong enough to suport a 200 lb man leaning on it for balance? The span between posts is 6 ft. 0 -
