I know some jobs that drug screening is done. Can you imagine how much money would be saved IF the welfare recipricants had to be urine tested for drugs?

    Duh.

Make welfare as hard to get as a building permit.
That bumper sticker got my nephew out of a speeding ticket.
Cop must have just built a house.

I agree with drug screening for public assistance.

The plethora of programs offered by the Gub'Ment is mind boggling. My step daughter found a program that paid $1,000.00 towards a new motor because she has four children (three dads) and is in school. The motor blew because she is too lazy to check or change oil. Why the hell the state of Ohio thinks auto repair is a function of Gub'ment is beyond my comprehension.

Doing what it takes to maintain nuclear families; Mom, Dad and children, would reap benefits for us much faster.

It sounds Hitler-esque, I know, but I think anyone who asks for a government sponsored handout, including SSI disability, should have to undergo voluntary sterilization to be eligible.

I would add bankruptcy to the list. It is abused just as much as the other programs.

Sounds good to me. I filed Chapter 7 in 2004, I had a vasectomy in 1988, and I have been able to pass a drug screen since 1972.

My wife works for Social Services.
    I'm hip.
She doesn't often tell me about her day at work, and when she does, it's in the vaguest of terms.
Even so, I'm often left shaking my head at the effort some folks put into living on the dole. Man, if they'd just channel 1/2 of that energy into keeping a job...

I live in the burbs of detroit. There is a very good reason why the crap stays south of 8 mile road. It is the "blood money" that is paid out in terms of welfare. Simply put, there's no reason why someone wouldn't cross the road to get to where the money is, other than the gov't is paying just enough to keep people from revolting.

Now, crazy as it might seem, I dont' resent it. Further, there is a huge population that are incapable of functioning in society. They just can't do it. They are unemployable. You have to do something with them.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather the govt pay chicken feed to keep the dogs at bay than have to deal with it in my own back yard.

Ugh, I completely disagree with you David. The WIC program is a good example. In the midst of a horrible divorce (when I was under a year old), the Sperm Donor refused to pay a penny of child support. My mother had zero choice, she left the marriage penniless with essentially whatever she could pack in a single suitcase because the Sperm Donor would come home from work every day and beat the ever-living crap out of her.

My mother remarried a wonderful man who I have always considered my father when I was three. They've had another child together (my sister).

Granted, this was in the 70s and times have changed, but no, I do not agree that people should be sterilized prior to receiving a government handout. Drug tested? Absolutely, and not randomly, either.

I agree with David. My pard and I have come up with this idea,...there is a federal computer with the names of all welfare recipients or those who apply. Once the person shows proof of their 6month norplant or whatever method of prolonged birth control, then that is day 1 of their welfare assistance. Then,..at the ending interval, they must show proof (real doctors notes) that the prescriprion has been readministered, and they will have another cycle of welfare available to them. let's face it,..if they aren't smart enough to stop having kids when they are already below poverty level, then they can't be trusted to take a pill every day. When you come up to the window for welfare,..they run your name and the computer states whether you are up to date on your birth control or not,..that determines whether you get any money or you have to go to the doctor first.

Now yes,..there are situations like spanielsells mother where she was in a bad situation and had to get out. Now at that point, the birth control should be a non-issue as she was obviously smart enough to not get pregnant again until she had found her current husband and entered into a healthy relationship. That action shows she is responsible, and therefore would be eligeable for support as soon as the birth control proof was presented. The problem is with the "breeders" who simply make more and more money by turning out little dirt balls who are so far behind at birth, with respect to income and family values, that all they are is another person who will most likely be a criminal, a drop-out, or at the very least, another mouth for the working class to support.[:(!]

There's a huge difference between what you are suggesting and what David (nunn) is suggesting. David is suggesting sterilization, which is permanent. What you are suggesting is a temporary (6 mos.) means of birth control.

Your suggestion is something that I can embrace. There's no permanency once the beneficiary is off the public dole. David's suggestion is one that I cannot.

yeah,..I see your point. I say as long as we are feeding/supporting you, you DO NOT have the right to create another life we must then also support. That shows a lack of pride, a lack of respect for what is being given to you, and an all around general lack of social values.

I can't for the life of me understand how anyone who has had a child, could think of bringing another innocent child into the world without having the means to raise them as a healthy and educated person. The child doesn't have a say,....and that is a great shame that a life was created and put into a deficient environment, all at their expense. It is not fair to have a child under those circumstances,...people need to think more about that than the extra money they will be getting all whilst paying the whopping $30/month to stay in a housing developement that I ALREADY payed for.

children are innocent and not yet jaded by the real world,..but bringing them into that situation starts their downward spiral in a life of poverty with little hope of escaping their economic situation without more subsities and a ton of perserverance, which sadly escapes the large majority of individuals who are brought up in that environment.
