Skylights?
Who has skylights? I just remembered how much they help to light up my house. It is snowing and the skylights are covered with snow. The house is so much darker than normal.

I don't have any. Is there any such thing as a skylight that doesn't leak when it rains, or weep condensation when it's cold? 0 -
I have one in each bathroom. They have never leaked.
It is dark in them now. We have almost a foot of snow here.0 -
I have two skylights, which I installed when I built the house 11 years ago. I wish I had never put them in.
I am on top of a mountain. I have lots of windows on the second floor, and four dormers. I can see the moon and stars from any window on the second floor. Don't need skylights.
I haven't had any problem with them leaking, etc, but, I have blinds on them and just keep them closed all the time. The damn things just let in too much sunlight. I haven't looked out one of those skylights in 6 years.0 -

Mine is not a leaker nor does it condense moisture. It is way over engineered with very good insulating features to prevent just the problems you discuss. It is in the kitchen catherdal ceiling and I love it.0 -
I had two in my last house and they were the types that could be cranked open with a long pole.
The problem was I had to go up on the roof often to clean off the leaves and junk that would collect on them from the fir and other trees along side the house.0 -

I have something called a skytube. Basically it's for houses with existing attics. You cut a hole about 18 inches in the roof and run a tube down through the attic to another 18 inch hole in the ceiling. My tubes lead to my stairwells. 0 -
I have 8 all on one side of the house. 2 in seperate bathrooms. 4 in the kitchen and 2 more in a living room.
None leak, condense or any other problems. They are about 3 years old.
I have 4 more in the packaging and may put them in the TV room and Computer room.
But the house sure darkens when you cover all the skylights.
PanzerSlayer2, my parents have 2 skytubes. They put out some light. One is in an entrance right next to a light. I must have hit that switch a dozen times trying to turn out the light not realizing it was all from the skytube.0 -
had one but here in florida it made the house too hot so it had to go 0 -

I put 22 of them in a sun room for an older lady this year. Then had to put in shades as it was to warm. It was new construction so not to bad, and no leaks. I put a couple in a wood shake roof after the house was built. Lots of work, but lot of light from them, too. I personally don't have any, did in other houses and they do let in a lot of light, but quite a bit of heat in the summer. 0 -
I've had two since 1976, no runs , no leaks , no errors. 0 -

The ones in my house are all in the Great Room - they lasted about fifteen years, and then one of them lost its seal, and got cloudy inside. I had all four replaced when I reroofed the house, and ordered ones with a UV film on them. They let in the visible light, but not so much the heat or the UV. LOVE THEM! They are the finishing touch that goes with the front wall of glass that makes it seem that we live in the outdoors, with the heat and comfyness of being inside. It makes for dramatic lighting, courtesy of God - each day and each hour of each day is different. Since the roof of the Great Room is 12/12 pitch, we almost never have anything that stays on the skylight between rainfalls. I kinda wanted one that was crank-opening, but decided that simple was better - I have two triangular windows under the eaves that I may convert to a vent window at some future date. 0 -
There are Two in the Bathroom of the Townhome I just bought. Right above the Jacuzzi tub. They apear to be a few years old since the plastic is a little foggy. They provide a lot of light, and don't leak, the only condensation buildup is from the shower or bath itself but doesn't build up if the door is vented a little. I wish I had a couple more skylights in this unit! 0
