Theft !!!!!!!!!

O.K. , let me start this rant out by saying that I think that there is nothing lower than a THIEF !!!
anyhow , long story short :
we have had the shop 'closed' for a few days , doing the "worlds longest , once a year Hiway 11 Yard Sale" thing , (running around trying to find stuff we dont need ...So, yesterday nite @ apx. 1930 (730pm) a semi-regular customer calls and wants to come out and check out some merchandise ??? Im @ work (full-time LEO job) so my Gunsmith Apprentice 'opens up the shop' and serves the customers (no sale?),
this afternoon after some more of the 'yard sale stuff' we get back to the shop , Open up , and discover TWO (2) guns missing ??? the only "customers" that have been into the shop was this semi-regular and his buddy ??? , one was a P.O.S. gun that was on the desk in the office that belonged to a customer that I had 'smithed' on and the other was one of the "shop guns" that we had in the office LOADED in case of a FUBARB ...of course , called the Sheriffs Office and a buddy of mine came out and done the report , notified the ATF (FUN!)
and now ???
GEEZ!!!
I am really torked at this point ....
Just needed to RANT a little ....

    I take it the "customers" were left alone or out of sight at some point in the shop?

    I to can not stand a thief, sounds like its time to install a surveillance system. Hope you catch them.

    O.K. , Update :
    Yes my apprentice went to the 'back of the shop' to retreive an item , thats all it took ...anyhow : Sheriffs Detective (a good friend of mine)followed up on this , made an arrest (both subjects) they confessed , CHARGED ! and I am to pick up the guns this afternoon ...and a few 'changes' have been made in the operation of the shop ...

    Surveillance does no good. We had a gun taken out of the counter...in the middle of the day....on camera...with everyone there! A group of younger boys came in....they were from the ages 16 to 25...and there were about 10 of them. Two of them had a crappy little junker gun and had someone looking at it...the rest were swarming around looking at everything and I should have noticed how nervous that one of them was acting...now thinking of it I remember thinking how young and scared one of them looked...anyway, they left and as the car was pulling out I said

    Where is the Smith (pointing at the empty blue box in the counter) and we all said "OH CRAP" simultaneously. We instantly called the police and had them on the phone before the car had gotten 10 feet away. They are all on tape, plain as day....stealing the gun. Nothing much to do now....just wait and see if they catch them....its been weeks now so I guess they will just get away.

    We changed things also....made it so you can't reach over the counter, take a lock off and actually reach anything in the counter. It won't be long before one of them tries though. I want to put in a shocking system that if you aren't standing on the foot-peddle when you open a counter you get a BZZZZZT!

    If it were legal I would like to shoot both Thieves in the Rear with a load of 8's at about 30 yds. Wouldn't kill them but burn like hell.

    a local shop of mine they have a rule, One gun out at a time per worker behind the counter. If a worker takes a gun out they put it back, should implement this, and never store your guns on top of the table.

    2nd Update :
    Picked up guns @ S.O. , spent some time talking with my buddy the dect. , two idiots (thieves) arrested,confessed,went to court (IA)and took a 'no challenge' approach , will be sentenced soon !!!their 'excuse' was they (the brothers) where looped on pills ??? the one dumb-azz has bought a few (GUNS)from us before (thats how we knew him and had his "INFO")??? GeeZ !!!!!anyhow , it was made clear that they are NOT to come back into the shop , and I did get a free pistol case out of the deal , Oh Boy !!!
    Anyhow , as bad of a deal as this was , it turned out as good as possible (for us) and was done rather quickly ....
