My new rifle
Picked it up yesterday, but looks like next weekend
will be the soonest I'll be able to shoot it.
It was'nt but a few years ago we could have walked
across the hiway, and shot to our hearts content.
I miss the old days.

Well, I just picked up my new Henry 45-70 and was surprised to find buckhorn sights on it instead of the Ghost Ring and front blade set up it's advertised with. I called Henry and was told this is the new improved version even though the website still shows the Ghost Ring.
I was kinda ok with it until I noticed on top of the barrel, just behind the front sight is a drilled and tapped hole with a set screw in it. I'm thinking they made a hurried production change and not a design change. Maybe couldn't get enough ghost ring sights to keep up with production so they retro fitted their own buckhorn sight just to get them out of the door.
Anyhow, it's really bugging me, I cannot pick up the rifle without looking at the hole and set screw on the top of my barrel. I wish I didn't accept delivery. Am I being too picky?0 -
Stainless mini 14. I bought it from another officer who got from some joker who knew nothing about this rifle. The guy thought you had to remove the gas block to brake the rifle down. In so doing he lost one of the screws and got the gas block out of adjustment. I fixed that with new screws from Ruger and had the Choate flash hider/front sight installed. Now all that's left to put a sling on, sight her in, and shoot a qualifying score.

Since I got it from a friend I paid a bit more than I would normally. All together I have about $435 in her. Like I said a bit more than I would like to have paid but the previous owner is a real nice guy and a Vietnam Vet. Heck the Vet part added $50 to what I was willing pay by itself. I would still like to kick the guy he got it from in the butt for screwing up the gas block, but it was an easy fix. 0 -

I hope she shoots as good as she looks. I have always been a big fan of stainless with a wood stock. Nice buy!!

I said they're not as nice as M1As and M14. I said nothing about them not being nice in and of themselves, I was just comparing them to the rifle they were based on.0
