How to Clean Live Ammo
Does anyone have any suggestions (useful, practical, and serious, please!) for cleaning, oh, say, dirty 50 BMG rounds?
I'm sure that you don't want anything penetrating the neck or primer seals, but would a careful cleaning with, oh, say, CLP necessarily be the end of the world?

Brass-cased cartridges can be cleaned with bronze wool (which is softer than brass). It is an amazing fact that nearly all corrosion can be removed from brass without affecting the underlying patina. Bronze wool should not be used on copper-cased cartridges. Never use steel wool on any cartridge.
If the bronze wool & elbow grease dosn't clean them enough for you, try a 5:1 mix of water & white vinegar on a cotton ball. Be sure to rinse well and dry.
You can also consider tumbling them (depending on quanity and size of tumbler) but some people discourage this as being potentaly dangerious0 -

So, I need dessicant in my ammo box, but it's OK to rub water all over my ammo?

Tumbling pulverizes the powder increasing the burn rate thus increasing pressure. I have also heard of one case of a round exploding in a tumbler.0 -

CLP is ok for cleaning ammo. So is Militec 1. (I used both in the sandbox to clean my ammo/mags.) I'd stay away from Hoppes 9 or any other powder solvent. 0
