that australian car ban got me thinking.

If they offered a 6 percent discount on your taxes for the year for not driving, or owning an SUV, or a V-8 car, would any one make use of it?>

    Edit: V-6's get the cut.

My truck has an inline 6 and my car has a V-6. Does that mean I get 6% for each?

Both cars have 4 cylinders, the wife's minivan has 6.

Both cars also get 28-30mpg, one made in '65 and the other in '99.

1 6% percent cut for the family, or 6% percent per spouse if you file seperately.

Taurus gets 24 driving back and forth to work at 75 mph and the F150 gets 12 mpg no matter how it's driven. I don't think I'll get the discount. Oh, and my motorcycle gets 24 as well.

    Sure why not,
plenty of powerful V6s out there, and I don't see the "fun" of an SUV anyway, the high CG means that you can't turn as sharply/wildly without feeling like you're about to turn over.

+1 on the no fun, i dont really see the point of having a huge denali, or tahoe or any of them. Plus whenever one gets behind me at night at a red light, or to close behind me when im driving my little saturn, their headlights seem to align perfectly with both my side view mirrors. and its always some 20 something woman talking on her cell phone driving it. But dont get me wrong, i understand some people use them for their business, or whatever, but i from what i see a majority of them are driven as status symbols.

6.5 Liter, TURBODIESEL Blazer, and a 5.3 Liter Tahoe, both 4X4.

My driveway is over 300 feet, starts up at about 27 degrees, and has a section that is over 42 degrees for a few feet. This is in the Wonderful NorthWest, where we get snow and ice.

I go to Kiting Events on the whole West Coast, on the Beaches, every Summer - I also tow a Camper Trailer (tent trailer) to most of the events.

I am a big fella, and my wife is not petite, either. We will not fit in a VW. We have a dog that goes with us everywhere - she is a Labrador. We need and use the DREADED SUVs wherever we go.

Don't guess I'll qualify for any sort of tax rebate.

    Oh, Well.

    Nope.
I got 3 kids and a boat to haul. I need my V-8 pickup.
My wife's car is a Lexus GX-470, all wheel drive.

Comfort, practicality and safety are worth more than 6% to me.

I live in the country in the hills where we get snow and we are a family of six. They don't make a four wheel drive SUV big enough for me my lovely wife and my four beautiful constantly bickering daughters.

I suppose that means I wont receive a that tax break.

My truck has a V-6, but my car's got a 4.6L V-8. But if it makes any of you feel better, my bike's got a 900cc inline 4.
