When did the doctrine of being Policitally Correct come into warfare?
What happened to the good ole days when you bombed and killed your enemy into submission?
If the enemy ran and hid in a church or mosque, you just blew it up with everyone inside it.
You didn't help rebuild the country until AFTER the war had been won.
We're fighting this war on eggshells so we don't p1ss off everyone.
I just don't understand warfare in the 21st century.[:(!]0 -
Peon: Good post. Yes, how "warfare? has changed. Looks like one must love ones enemy and not harm them until after they shoot you. Looks like we are rebuilding as we go instead of first winning. Until WE
realize that we will never win their hearts this way, we just plain better give up, get out, or change our ways of "fighting?" and do some actual killing. At wars end in Germany a soldier was not even allowed
to "fratenize" with a Kraut for many months by Army Regs. (of couse this
didnt work out too well).0 -
the people (citizens) want us too. and the politician are what happens when you have a bunch of apathetic apologists with no understanding of anything voting 0 -
its the groverments fault![:p] 0 -
I agree. Sort of. I personally think that when you see opinion polls about 'having a negative view of the war in Iraq' a lot of that is people are sick of ice creamfooting around. What we have to make the populace understand is that if they harbor a terrorist or extremist THEY too will die as we level the block.
Still, it is not quite that dry or clean cut; we lost a number of men to SS Werewolf resistance after the end of the war in Germany, but didn't hesitate to start rebuilding. We kicked Hussein's butt but good- so I think that we were right to start rebuilding. WHERE THE AREAS ARE SECURED. Everywhere else, Iraqi military, terrorists, whatever, is still a war zone and should be treated as such.0 -

(Sorry, Chuck ... sometimes Fridays

Wherewolves?? What wherewolves ? While waiting to go home after the end of the war I never heard of one true incident or talked to any GI there
that saw a incident of werwolves. Possibly a very few cases MAYBE did
occur. Another wildly told WW 2 myth. I was there for about 6 months
after wars end in ETO waiting to go home. To begin with, most Germans were so damn glad to be in the American Zone of occupation, and not the Russian Zone of occupation.0 -

I hope that's not the case, I have a tidy sum invested in groverment bonds.0 -
Within a year and a half after occupying Germany, things had settled down and the country was getting back on track. No comparison to this occupation.
The citizens were war weary, normal human beings that wanted to get on with their lives and did not see Americans as enemies, but as liberators. Far, FAR from the current 5th year scenario in Iraq.0 -
How did germany get in to this post about our leaders being to STUPID to win a war?????????????? 0 -

Chuck- The wars the US has been involved with since WWII were not wars in the general sense. They have been the application of force and money with an end goal that doesn't include elimination of society in the problem country. The Korean war was a test of US resolve, not a reason to use our nukes. The Chinese were our allies just a few years earlier, and by and large the general population still is considerate of the US. The Vietnam war was a matter of cost accounting. When considering the goals of the US, the US fared much better than any of the other participants, infact it marked the high-water mark for Communism. The Vietnam and Afghanistan wars put the Soviet Union over the edge into bankruptcy. Vietnam suffered an estimated 4,000,000 dead. Now Vietnam is rushing as fast as they can to a market society, particularly in the former South Vietnam. Within my lifetime I'll see Vietnam and the US as allies.
So for Iraq, it was determined that Saddam was too dangerous to leave in power, so he needed to be and was removed from power. This left a vacuum. The sad part of the US policy was that it wasn't anticipated that the outside fighters would migrate to Iraq in the volume that they did. Now it's a matter of having the Iraq government become established as the accepted government by the populace. When the government is a viable means of protecting the citizenry, then the people will support it, revealing the insurgents in their midst.
When that happens, the arab world will be on the track to normal relations with the rest of the world, and we could again enjoy a peace dividend. According to Biblical prophesy, this won't happen, but that should not prevent us from trying.0 -
Ray B, I could NOT disagree with you more. 0 -
That's fine. I'm comfortable with the concept of differing opinions. 0 -

Don't insult the military. We're not the ones that declared war. We're the ones that have to fight the politicians war for them because not a one of them has the balls to do it themselves.[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]0
