I always liked George "The Animal" Steele. I don't think he ever won a match. He always got DQ'ed! The crowd loved him!

Harley Race was one wrestler whom I believe truly WAS as physically tough and bruising in real life as his ring persona was. I would not have wanted to be the one to incur his wrath in a gin joint.
