P229 or SigPro?
So...
Was at the range with friends last week; my girlfriend came with me (the one who didn't like a .38special or any 9mm auto for too much recoil). Buddy's wife was along, and was shooting his P229 in .40. He and I step off the line, BS for a while, the next time I look, my girlfriend is going to town with the Sig--and doing surprisingly well with it. I had to buy 2 boxes of ammo off him...(OK, I shot a few mags through it, too...)[:D]
I'd been looking for a good house gun for her; on the way back from the range, she commented that she liked the Sig, and was surprised at how nice it shot...hint, hint.
So, now I'm looking at Sigs. I remember playing with a SigPro, and kinda liking it (and really liking the price), as well...but, if she likes the 229...I just have a few questions.
First off--anyone with experience with these critters? Positives, negatives, side by side comparisons?
How well do the alloy frames stand up? I know, it sounds kinda silly when I endorse USP's, Glocks, and am looking at the SigPro...but, I'm just kinda wondering.
Any recommended loads for the .40? I shoot heavy (200 & 230grn) in .45's, and light (115, 124grn) in 9mms...so do the heavy 180's or the light 135's tend to perform better in .40?

The SIG Pro is an excellent hand gun and that's what I carry (.357 SIG). The heavier 229 might be more appropriate for her, as it will produce less recoil than the lighter Pro...for a house/plinking gun, I'd take the 229 over the Pro. Has she shot an XD yet? You may want to take a look at those as well...I don't think I've picked up a handgun that points as naturally as the XD does. 0 -
I have a Sig-Pro 40 and have been happy with it. CDNN has had some deals on mags for these. Mine has shot well with 180 and 155 gr ammo. The 229 is a better pistol, but not any more accurate. I couldn't say it is worth the extra money. 0 -
The SIG Pro is a great polymer gun, I have one chambered in .357 sig and I love it. But I havent found a (IMHO)better gun anywhere than the P-229. I have 2 P-229's of my own, one is chambered for the .40 S&W and the other the .357sig. I really like all of the SIG line of Firearms. Good Luck!! 0 -
Either pistol is good, and will serve for a LONG time. Either will shoot more accurately than the shooter can appreciate.
Personally, I prefer the P229 over the P2340. I prefer the aluminum alloy frame over plastic, and as a SIG armorer, I find that there are very few armorer-serviceable parts on the P2340. In the manual, in the trouble-shooting section, there are lots of "return to factory" solutions to problems.
My daily carry gun is a P229. Some of my co-workers carry the P2340, but most carry the P229 or P226.0 -
And on top of that, Locust Fork has a 229 up on auction now with 2 barrels. Looks like a good deal... 0 -
That's a great deal, but I'm looking for the traditional DA/SA, not the DAO... 0 -
I have both you won't be disappointed in which ever one your choose.
have shot the S!it out of the Pro never had a problem, 229 is a lot newer and i don't shot it as much. I wouldn't even own it but it was a smoking deal that i couldn't pass up.0 -
There is a seller on the auction side that has a Sig 2340 listed for about $349 with three 12 round mags, its a police trade in, but in nice shape. Do a search on the auctions for Sig Pro 40 caliber.

Get a Sig Sport instead. It will shoot rings around the other two. 0 -
The Sig P229 is a NICE gun. I rent it every time I go to the range and have NO complaints about it. You won't go wrong with it.
However, I've never shot a SigPro in .40, so my opinion is admittedly rather biased.[;)]0 -
A very nice, and no doubt well-made and reliable gun with an impressive track record yet no matter what model I pick up and hold, I find myself instantly "turned off" to the feel of the gun in my hand. Just not my personal cup of tea. 0
