ammo you have but no gun in that caliber?
I'm not talking about ammo that you had a gun for and it got left behind when the gun was sold or traded.
Quite some time back I was trading fired cases for live ammo and I got all the 38 Special the guy had left on hand so I bought a couple boxes of 38 S&W.
I've never owned a gun in 38 S&W and I probably wouldn't ever go looking for one but I figured, "Eh, I might run across a real deal on one someday..."
Did you ever buy ammo "just in case I buy a gun in that caliber" ?

That said I think I did acquire a box of 38 S&W from a friend that has passed on. And maybe some 25 cal, I don't have either cal.0 -

No, but I have bought a gun so I could shoot some ammo I had on hand.0 -
I bought 2 cases of federal .308, 220 swift and 5 cases of winchester 454 causul. The price was right. I know have the 220 and 454 just looking for the right 308.
I have even what as far as buying scope rings for a gun that i don't yet have.0 -
I have 400 Rounds of 7.62X51 blanks on 4 linked belts for a M-60, I might find a M-60 with a blank adapter to shoot them out of one day.
I also have a ton of other stuff laying around for guns I sold 15+ years ago, I take the ammo to the range every now and then to see if there is anything to shoot it out of.
I had 200 rounds of 45 acp that I brought with me one day, I talked a guy into letting me shoot 100 rounds through his brand new Ed Brown Executive carry to help break it in. For the privilege of shooting such a fine pistol I gave him the other 100 rounds.0 -

i have quite of bet of shotgun shells, 16 ga, 28 ga, 20 ga, no gun to gun with it, have some steel shot 12 ga but i do have a 12 ga but no use for steel shot. lots of brass that i dont reload, buddies think i'm the brass depot, they bring me bags and boxes of empties, i'd need a fortune to buy the guns to match the brass 0 -
A friend gave me a box of 25acp ammo.
