Better Now? or Later?
Seems like a lot of time, effort, and resources are spent trying to either keep what we've got (such as Constitutional Rights), trying to keep the drugs somewhere else, encouraging some despot from making things difficult on the US. And for what?
What do you suppose would happen if the "gun lobby", the anti-druggies, the various military and foreign welfare agencies just said: "Okay, we give up, ban every gun, legalize every chemical, any other country or religious zealot may do whatever they want."
Seems to me one possible outcome would be a realignment of authority, followed by resumption of normal process with very little effort wasted on the present sink-holes.
But then I haven't given it a lot of thought, so what say you?

I'm a Libertarian for Life, so I think they should legalize everything and repeal every law except the ones prohibiting direct aggression on another individual.
I could go on, but I suspect I'm in for a flaming as is...0 -
Ray, while I think your suggestion has merit, I'm going to go oil my garden.
I guess that when all would be said and done, we could re-arm with AK's because I doubt there would be any Firearm Industry left in the US.0 -
What we should make illegal is big cities. Really! When you start cramming 100s of thousands or even millions of people into a small space conflict is going to arise at a much higher rate than if everyone has plenty of space. Spread everyone out and you won't need to regulate them as much cause what they do wont be as prone to causing others problems.[:D] 0 -
OK, just to stir the pot.
I'd change one thing in your scenario. Don't ban guns, leave the guns in the mix. Take the restrictions off.
But the bad guys would be able to get guns, you say? They ALREADY have them. DUH. It's not hard for CRIMINALS to get guns. It's only the law abiding that are intimidated by the over-abundance of gun laws. Let the LAW ABIDING have them TOO.
How many time would Johnny the rapist be a REPEAT offender, if the parents of little 6 year old Suzi, were allowed to dish out the punishment? If criminal KNEW that their actions would result in their TERMINATION, instead of some time at club med, with 3 meals a day, a warm bed, a college level education, big bubba as a boy friend, etc. they may think differently about committing the crime.
The harsh reality of this type of system would wake some of them up. The ones too STUPID to grasp the possible penalties, would soon clean the gene pool.
Druggies? If they are too dumb to be able to use drugs on a recreational basis (which most drugs WERE legal some years back) then let them OD. Leave them to rot where they are. Let the morgue handle these reprobates. Again the gene pool would be better off.
I believe there are more good guys than bad. If left to their own devices, the good guys would tire of bowing to the whims of the bad guys, and pool together to clean them out. A balance would be reached.
Would there be atrocities because of this?
There ALREADY are.0 -
pickenup - I couldn't have said it better, myself... well, maybe, a little better.

I am thinking the bad guys would sell the drugs, have the guns and replace the government. Can you say Darfur? Uganda? Sudan? Cambodia? 0 -
I against banning guns and drugs. Why do you assume they are related? 0 -
what we should ban is thugs problem solved[}:)] 0
