    I'd like to see more information on what the rest were using, shotguns and deer rifles?

    They are saying that only 2% used "assult" weapons while the remaining used handguns and long guns.

    AWB put into place in September of 1994, and lifted in September of 2004. Most of us know this ban effectively did nothing, but someone will make hay with these statistics.[xx(]

    Of all (violent?) convictions, 17% of state and 15% of federal carried a gun.
    Of all (violent?) convictions, 2% carried a weapon in the so-called assault configuration.

    83-85% carried no gun, as I interpret that sentence.

    Total violent crime has also decreased, so it makes sense that crimes committed using firearms would also decline.

    Statistic's can be bent to say almost anything you want them to.

    Crime is a young man's game. As our society ages (we boomers are getting near senior status) the percentage of the population demographically correct for crime gets smaller, thus crime decreases. Concealed carry has had a salubrius effect as well.
