Telecommuting.

Does anyone here do their job from home, or have the capability to do so? Also, do any of the employer's on the board have employees who telecommute?

    I do about half the time, depending on what I need to do.

    I have a liberal work from home policy - ie: I can work from home any time I want/need to. I can do 99% of my job from home.

    I can, but rarely do. Friend of mine does on a fairly regular basis, as did one of the women that I work with while her kids were still in gradeschool.

    Anyone have leads on how to get into a position like this? I'm pursuing my Masters, and doing some editing/writing from home would probaly pay better than my current job.

    Have worked in what we call "virtual office" or "remote worker" since 1998. Office is at the house, boss is 900 miles away, HR dept is 1200 miles. Half my work is here, half involves an airplane ride somewhere. Company figured out none of our customers are in our office, so why should we be? Business phone line, fax, laptop, cell phone. Good side- When you wake up, put on your slippers, get a cup of coffee, walk downstairs to the office, boot computer, watch your neighbor shoveling snow so he can drive to office. You can get more work done, some days I work til 9, some days i knock off at noon, go fishing. I can pat the cleaning lady on the butt without getting sued. downside? you must be internally motivated, and sometimes have to tell your lady "Don't care if the grass DOES need cutting- I'll do it when i get home from work."

    I don't have any kids, or a wife, so that problem won't be a distraction. A job allowing this kind of flexibility would be perfect for me. I could go to class without interrupting the flow at work, and I'm self motivated to get things done. I believe I suffer from a phobia about being late, or doing things late.

    You folks are certainly braver than myself, I would always have the constant fear of my molecules being rearranged differently on arrival than when I left.
