Marty got canned by the chargers first time i CAN RECALL SUCH A SUCCESSFUL COACH BEING SENT TO THE SHOWERS.
WHERE WILL HE END UP? HAS DALLAS ANNOUNCED A NEW HEAD COACH YET?

Out to pasture...
Dallas has already hired Bum's boy Wade.0 -
Yet another NFL owner takes the low road to preserve ticket sales.
If the corn isn't sweet enough, blame it all on the farmer. If the horse isn't fast enough, denounce the jockey. If a tire blows in the final lap, fire the entire crew. Don't fix it - just blame someone for it.
Schottenheimer worked a small miracle with the Chargers who have to be one of more successful franchises at falling short of expectations. He deserved another year to fine tune the team. Tony Dungy is living proof of improving a team's performance over 3 or 4 years.
Another team will surely snatch him up and have a really good year as a result.0 -
maybe they were mad at him for letting my ex-brother inlaw slip away to coach the dolphins 0 -

Didn't Jerry Jackson fire Jimmy Johnson right after the Cowboys won the Super Bowl? Don't think they've won one since....0 -

I doubt this was a result of ticket sales. I know Alex Spanos who is the owner of the Chargers. He lives and grew up in my hometown in California. He is happy as long as he breaks even on the team when it comes to money, although he has always made a proffit from them. When he first bought the team he paid 27 million for it and it is worth many many times over that now.
In the past he has even talked about moving the team to Stockton but is smart enuff to know that he would lose money if he did so as the area is not quite big enuff yet to support the team.
I think on top of Shottenheimer's playoff record (which is not very good) there is some underlying aspects that have not fully come out into the media.
Spanos is a self made millionair. He grew up as a poor kid and his parents owned a little tiny bakery on Main St in Stockton CA after immigrating to the US from Greece. Money is far from the most important thing in his life. He donates MILLIONS every year to many charities, hospitals, and to the University of the Pacific every year. Yes he has money now (that he made in land development and such) but he does spread it around to the community. And the ammount he donates is far more than for just tax writeoffs.0 -
