AK stock finish?
Just got my SAR-1 and the forend grips look like they have a glossy brown paint on them...what would it be? Shelack? You cannot even see the wood grain on it. Should I use Denatured alcohol or Brownells Super stripper to get it down to bare wood?

I really like the straight wood look like on my WASR-10.
As for proper I believe straight wood is correct but not sure.0 -
I'm trying to figure the best way to get it down to the bare wood. This thing looks like it was soaked in shiny dookie for a few days[xx(] 0 -
I have re-finished several AK Stock set's. I like to take a small sander to the stock, sand all that prehistoric crap of. Finish up with a lil hand sanding with some fine paper. Then I like to rub tongue oil into my stock's. Show's the grain of the wood, look's very nice. 0 -
I thought I heard sanding could make the fit not so good b/c you shave off some of the wood. 0 -
You don't have to sand the area's that fit into the receiver. Just up to the edge. Make it look pretty. 0
