Another Death in Iraq, (former friend)
This time it's kinda close to home.
I played basketball and baseball with him, he was a good friend and a hell of an athlete.

A 22-year-old soldier from Lafayette and Monticello has been killed in Iraq. Specialist Cody Putman is the 77th Indiana soldier to be killed in the war. Putman is the fifth soldier from Indiana to die in the last two weeks.
Putman was stationed in Baghdad and had been in Iraq six months. He attended school at both Hershey Elementary and East Tipp Middle School and then went to Twin Lakes High School in Monticello. Putman was married and has a three-year-old daughter named Madelyn. Putman's mother, Pam Mow said it is still hard for her to believe her son is gone.
"Cody was just one of those people he could do anything, he could do anything he wanted to do," Mow said. She said she always knew her son would excel in the army because of his athleticism, but she still worried about her son's safety every day. "He said he'd driven over many duds, and something might blow up in back of him or in front of him and he'd just kind-of cringe wondering if he was going to get hit with shrapnel," Mow said.
Putman was with his daughter, wife and parents in Florida just 10 days before his death. Mow said it was hard then for the family to say good-bye. "He said mom don't worry, we know what we're doing and I'll be okay and this time, he'd been there," Mow said. "It was a little more unsettling when he had to go back. He knew things we didn't know about how life is back there."
Mow said although she does not blame anyone for her son's death, she would like to see the war end soon. "It's one of those things, how would you feel if it was your child over there? I wish they'd keep that in mind when they're making their policy." She said what she clings to now is her three-year-old granddaughter, and memories from her family's last trip to Florida all together. "Life goes on, and I don't mean that to be blas?, but it will never go away, we'll always hurt and just always remember."
Pam Mow said she believes her son died from an improvised explosive device, but said she will be meeting with army officials to get more information on exactly what happened.

Sorry to hear Cubs. It is a shame. Sounds like his mom took it a lot better than I would have.
Yet another reason this gd 'occupation' should have been over years ago. Just as the British couldn't deal with our gorilla tactics, neither can we deal with the insurgent's.
This same scenario with IEDs will keep re-occuring for the next hundred years if we want to stay there that long. If people can't see that, they better open their eyes. How many more do we have to lose?0 -

i to lost a close buddy about two years ago. he was shot in the back for cryin out loud... went in to clear a building, didnt find anything.. guy was iding behind the door they kicked in.. he was on the outside pulling guard. once every body left the house dude comes around and pops my friend in the back 2 or 3 times.... granted the guy got lit up like a christmas tree after he did that, but now that i am over here, i make sure to let allah sort them out after they have taken their dose of lead vitamin. 0 -
