Does anyone still like tower speakers?

I have a $500 (new price) set of very nice Cherry Cerwin Vega mid-tower (30") speakers that I am trying to get a measly $75 for. No calls at all. Does anyone at all use the mid-towers anymore or has everyone gone to the small speakers?

If they weren't too big to ship, I'd have a giveaway for them on the board.

    Those are some kik-azz speakers.I'd buy'em in a sec. but i'm in West Palm Fl.If you set them at the end of your driveway with a sign next weekend, you'll sell'em in an hour.

    It really depends on the type of system in use, the physical characteristics of the room, and personal preferences. For surround sound you really do not need big speakers because bookshelf, center channel, surround rears, and a subwoofer will give you all the musical content you need. Essentially, if you have a subwoofer, you don't need the tall tower speakers with large bass handling woofers. However, for stereo large bass handling speakers are best, in my opinion. For my 5.1 surround system I use Klipsch Reference IV series speakers, but for my stereo system, which is in a separate room and includes a turntable, tape players, and a CD player, I use Klipsch KLF-20's (41" tall, 12" wide, 16" deep and weigh 87 lbs each).

    Two different rooms, two different set up....In my office I have
    a Subwoofer and mini-speakers. In the family room, a 5.1 set up
    with Polk Speakers front and rear.

    I still think large speakers have better sound overall than a Sub/Sat
    system.

    if you want to know whats in or out, just go to a goodwill and see what kind of speakers they have for a buck.[;)][:I]

    rule of thumb for me is if sound comes out of them, they are good speakers. heck, my stereo still has an 8 track in it. doesnt work, but the radio, turntable, and speakers do.[8D] paid 400 bucks for it in the 70's and now, i cant give it away if i tried.

    Did you try to put them on craigslist? I have put a few things from around the house on there. They have gone really fast.

    I had the same issue with a set of Polk Audio Monitor 7 speakers. Still looked and sounded great but everyone seems to be in to the smaller speakers. Heck, that is the reason I got rid of them!

    Ended up taking them to goodwill and will use them as a write off.

    Polk 7's to the Goodwill....One of the best speakers ever made, dollar for dollar they were hard to beat. I still use a set I bought in 1982....they are hooked up to a vintage Carver M500t at
    250 WPC.

    Those are some badass speakers. I run a 6.1 system driven by a Sony Reciever.

    Man, I'll pay the shippin' if you given away. Zip 70816. I noticed the left speaker on my Pioneer was rattlin'/blown the other day. Finally got my turntable tuned so I don't get the feedback. Kicked in the Teeth Again sounds good now, except for that one blown speaker.

    All you cheapskates using JCPenny special speakers or Gerard or Realistic or any of the other cheap garbage brands, now is the time to step up to "real" speakers! Of course, my most excellent speakers are not going to make your $125 POS stereo sound much better, but it will help a bit. I had these connected to a nice Harmon Kardon system before and they sounded like a concert hall. It's up to you, keep your garbage and save up for more garbage, or shell out a paltry $75 for a pair of $500 speakers.

    Even with a blown midrange on one speaker, these will still sound light-years better than your Pioneer crapolla! "
