This is an odd-numbered Star Trek film.

As a rule, the even-numbered films are good whereas the odd-numbered films suck.

Plus, I heard that this is essentially a remake of Brokeback Mountain. [;)]

Would Matt Damon make a good Kirk? I think so. How about Halle Barry for Uhura? She would ROCK!

That dude from lost at Sulu would be great too!

I'm not sure about Scotty. Any thoughts?

The groundskeeper from The Simpsons comes to mind.

Willie? He'd be perfect if this was animated. I was thinking Liam Neeson.

I think this is a bad idea for a few reasons. The main one is, Kirk and Spock and the rest of the crew have become icons, legends. No one will ever accept anyone but Shatner as Kirk, Nimoy as Spock, etc. Not for a feature film. It just won't be right somehow. It would be worse than anyone BUT Sean Connery as James Bond. He defined it. Everyone else was just a sad substitute, even if the film itself was good.

Second, a LOT of fans today have never formed a connection with the original series. It was before they were even born! I mean, I've seen all the episodes, but I don't like it like I do the others (well, Voyager kinda sucked but the rest were all very good).

Finally, to stay true to canon, they'll have to have dayglo flourescent colors, strange beepy things, stilted computer voices, etc., on the Enterprise or any other ship. Even then, there is no indication that Kirk and Spock ever knew each other before their posting to Enterprise- Spock had been aboard the ship for at least 13 years already under the command of Christopher Pike, and if Kirk had already known him, he wouldn't have wanted Gary Mitchell as his first officer. So continutity problems rear their head.

Nope, bad idea. I want to see a DS9 movie letting us know that Captain Sisko is done communing with the prophets and such.

Really? I think of Bond and I preferred Roger Moore's portrayal. Great sense of humor. Connery was funny, too, but his sense of humor was much more dry, sort of like Dalton's.

A bit tired of TOS, but still a fan.

I bet you have your own Starfleet uniform.

I'd like to see something with Voyager. I thought a movie was supposed to be done on that.

Unwittingly, you have stumbled across the best choice for Scotty - Sean Connery!

I think they can make a modern version of Star Trek and make a LOT of money at it. Look at Enterprise - it did quite well in the special effects department yet still looked "older" than TNG. I think people would go to see an updated Star Trek with a new cast of the same original characters.

Gary Sinese for Bones is perfect!

    Now who would play Spock?

Nope, I don't have my own uniform, and I've only seen the first episode, "Where No Man has gone Before" once. I just have a good memory, that's all. Oh, and the Star Trek Encyclopedia. [:o)]

I think not. Too old if he's supposed to be in the Academy.

Absolutely! Uhura, like all the other females in the original, was mostly eye candy. Halle Barry could fill that role PLUS maybe even actually play a part in the plot, too.

    Nope. Again, too old.

Nobody comes to mind. As stated before, these characters are icons. It would be hard for anybody else to do a convincing job of any of them. Even folks who are not familiar with the originals would wonder what all the fuss was about.

Got it - Ewan McGregor (Young Obi Wan) for Scottie.
