35mm Slides to CD ???
I have about a thousand 35mm slides, give or take a few, I'd like to have on CDs. However, I don't want them on CDs bad enough to pay the $500.00 it would cost to have it done. Coincidently, $500.00 is about what it would cost to buy a drum scanner and do it myself.
Does anybody have the secret of how to do it on a flatbed scanner?
All replies appreciated, especially the ones with information. [:D]

James, I have a Visioneer One Touch 9220 USB scanner that has an insert for scanning negatives or 35mm slides. I have had it approximately 4, maybe 5 years so I don't know it that particular one is still available. I think I paid about $100. Check with Staples or Circuit City or Best Buy. Tell them what you are looking for and I'm sure if one is available, they will know.
I put all of my 35mm slides and also scanned the 35mm negatives I had from the '60's and put them all on CD. Now I enjoy looking at them occassionally without having to set up a screen and projector.
Time consuming, but you can scan 3 slides each time, which helps some.

+1
My HP flatbed scanner also has the insert in the lid to do slides or negatives.
Pro: I have successfully been converting old slides and negatives to digital images.
Con: It is ONE slide at a time, 2-3 frames on a negatives strip at a time. I may have everything converted along with all the VHS, VHS-C and Hi-8 tapes that I've been converting and burning to DVDs, just in time to pass on as heirlooms/video memoirs to the great-grandkids.[:(] My kids are only 11 & 3 now!!![:D]0 -
Thanks for the replies.
peabo, amazon.com has two of them, and I think I'm about to order one. I've got a question for you first. When you are doing the slides, do you have to unmount the slide from the frame to make the copy?
Thanks.0 -
Never mind. I filled out the order and it is unavailable. [:(] 0 -

No, you do not have to take them out of the frame. The insert has a space to hold three slides at a time.

I never did find anybody who had the Visioneer scanner in stock so I bought the HP G4050. I almost decided not to get it because it had some pretty bad customer reviews, but then I noticed most of the people who didn't like it were using Windows VISTA. I decided to take a chance. In my opinion it's the greatest thing since metallic cartridges.
It turned out I have over two thousand slides to copy and I've done about fourteen hundred so far.
Thanks for the information.
Now my next question.
I've decided I'd like to put them onto a DVD that's playable on a regular TV as a slide show with a DVD player. Can this be done? If so, what kind of equipment and software do I need?
Thanks.0 -
James, my DVD player will also play photo cd's as a slide show on the TV. Try to get them to show on the TV through your DVD player before you go to the trouble of putting them on a DVD disc.
Works for me. Let us know.
If not, it would be easier and probably cheaper to up-date your DVD player to one of the newer ones that plays MP3's, music CD's and photos.
By the way, post some of those pictures for us to see !!!
Thanks---Peabo0 -
Honestly, the best way to get these into your computer is to set up a digital camera on a tripod with a wireless or wired remote, set up your slide projector, focus in, and have yourself a slide show while your taking pictures.
The quality should be great and you can put the original slides in storage.0 -
I have a Canon CanoScan 8600 F scanner that will copy film strips or slides, only cost $150.00 from Buy.com.
Haven't tried it on slides, but it does a reasonable job on film.0 -
I have a bunch of Super 8mm home movies I would like to transfer to a DVD. Does anyone know what is the best way to do that? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Bshooter 0 -
When you have this professionally done, they play it on an 8mm projector and record it with a digital video camera directly from the sreen. So save the middle man and do it yourself! 0
