Lap-top Projectors ... Who knows about them?

Here's the scoop ...

At work, we are getting ready to make some major changes to our computer system and I need to have a few classes to get everybody on board, and on the same page. Classes will be 12-15 people so a big screen connected to my lap-top would be a definite advantage to get the point across ... As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words!

I'm just starting the shopping phase, any advise on what to get? What to stay away from?

Maybe an odd question for a gun forum but I know our membership is a huge database of knowledge!

    I have a seperate projector that attaches to my laptop. I am not quite sure what you mean by having a big screen attached to your laop top. If you are considering simply a large screen tv then life is easy. Most have data ports where you can simply "plug and play". Is that what you are wanting or do you want an actual projector?

    Get a used X1 off ebay for $200 - will work like a charm and 4000 hour bulb life.

    I have a HP mp2210 that I use a couple times a month. Works great. Very compact, color is good, easy to use, low noise.

    We use a few different projectors at work (classrooms in college). OUr latest batch are Sharps, but we've used Dells with no problems. Brighter is better....

    Note that when you hook one up to your laptop, you occasionally have to tell the system to use it for output. On Dell laptops (and I'm sure others), there is a toggle switch that goes from built in to external only to both built in and external and then back.

    gagirl - seprate projector is what I'm wanting to know about, we have a 4x8 dry erase white board I was planning to use as a big screen.

    Thanks for the responces ... I've looked on ebay but don't know enough about them to know good from bad.

    I checked on a rental ... only one place in town had them for rent and at $125/day so I thought purchase would be the way to go

    A DE board won't be good to project against - you'll have a flare spot in the middle of the screen...

    A plain solid white sheet hung over it could work for you short term... What we've done in a few labs and classrooms is to just use a flatter white paint on one wall and mark the corners of the projection area with tape.

    Don't buy a used one due to bulb life issues.

    The InFocus X1 is the workhorse of their business projector line. I have used the same X1 in my home theater for 4 years now and have never had a single issue. We watch movies every weekend. It still works as new. You can't beat it for price, reliability and quality. You should be able to see a good image with the lights on as well it is very bright.
