I saw this in the September/October 2007 Bassmaster Magazine - page 29. I didn't notice any others posting this so I thought I would. I guess Microsoft is so inbedded (no pun intended) in our computer systems that they feel they can support anything they please...

Microsoft Partners With Anti-Hunting Group

Microsoft has rejected a U.S. Sportsman's Alliance request to abandon its partnership with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
The software giant will make a $100,000 donation to the HSUS and is partnering with the group on a pilot program called the Microsoft i'm Initiative. The program allows users to select organizations to receive a portion of the advertising revenue whenever they have an instant messaging conversation using Windows Live Messanger. There is no limit to the amount of money that could be donated.
"Microsoft is going to pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into an organization that recently issued an manifesto that targets hunting for extinction," said U.S. Sportsman's Alliance President Bud Pidgeon. "If there ever was a time for sportsmen to take grassroots action, this is it."
The HSUS opposes all animal use, including trapping, hunting and fishing. It is one of several organizations selected by Microsoft for inclusion in the program.

    So, are we supposed to give up computers now?

    You can't go to Apple, they're even more liberal than Gates.

    Linux is open source and done by many college professors, about as liberal and gun-hating as you can get.

    Sometimes, you just have to support people you don't like.

    spanielsells - wrong about Linux. Many Linux users are about Freedom, not free-of-cost stuff. Freedom to change things to make 'em work they way *they* want 'em to, and Freedom for you to do the same thing with the changes they make.

    Also, quite a few of the Open Source "big names" are extremely pro-gun - take a look at Eric S. Raymonds stuff for an example, he's one of the more outspoken F/OSS guys -

    So what else is new ? Bill Gates personally funded an anti-gun initiative petition a number of years ago.which was soundly beaten at the polls.
    I really don't know if you become a Socialist/Fascist puke when you get rich..or if you are one always.but the rich sure don't give a damn about anything but expanding their own power and reach.
    My belief is pretty straightforward.This Earth is the Devils playground, right now.so whom do you suppose he is going to reward ?
    Only those seeking to destroy personal freedom.

    Microsoft can support anyone they want. I don't hold it against them. This board is quick to preach no political correctness and here is a company that does not need to be.

    I am sure someone can come up with something they don't like about any organization.

    Sure if you don't like it, boycott their products, but don't expect everyone to cow to every groups' whims. If enough people boycott, they will stop their support. Something tells me that will not happen.
