Ruger MKII 22 problem
I was able to take it apart from the instructions on the book, but now the bolt will not slide back in. I am following the instructions they have in the book for this gun but still no luck. Any ideas?

I got one that was dis assembled at a yard sale for 20 bucks in June I can get it back together but the hammer isnt engaging, but for 20 bucks I couldnt pass it up[:D] 0 -
You have to be sure the hammer strut is centered in the main spring.
Tip the pistol back a bit before trying to latch the mainspring housing latch.0 -

With the bolt out reach a finger inside from the back and push the hammer down,just tilting the gun muzzle up does not always drop thr hammer all the way down. 0 -
I'm not smart-assin' here. Does the manual tell you to turn the pistol upside down at a perticular point in the re-assembly? I kid you not, it's an integral part of the process. 0 -
Follow your manual to a *T* and keep at it.
It will click when you get it.0 -
Pull the trigger.
First as previously posted make sure the hammer is up and the hammer strut is center in the main spring. As you try to latch the disassembly latch keep the trigger pulled. This will disengage the sear from the hammer and allow the the latch to close without having to overcome the main spring.0 -

Thanks, following the diagram on the web was better than the manual with no photos. I got most of it back together. I will have to wait for a day off to do the rest. 0 -

For cleaning. It was recommended. But also I am trying to get a feel for semi-auto pistols instead of revolvers. Right now all I own are revolvers and the Mark II. I know if I ever want to switch to a pistol for my carry weapon I will have to know how to disassemble and assemble it.0 -
Thanks for opening this thread. I have one also and I don't think I will ever take it apart either. I have found that brake/carb cleaner followed by wd40 or some other sprayed lube is the safest way for me to proceed! Tom 0 -

Once you get used to it, it is no longer hard to put back together.
For the price I paid for it I love my MK II.

I have to get my manual out every time I strip mine. If you follow the directions to a T it will go back together easily. They should have taught us how to field strip a Ruger Mark II in Basic Training. I can strip a 1911 or a Beretta 9mm and put it back together in under 15 sec. The Ruger takes about 3 minutes. LOL 0 -

I agree, it is not that bad once you get used to it. If you do it, exactly, the way the instructions tell you it will go back together.
I have zero training in gun repairing or field stripping and I got it, granted it was a little frustrating the first few times, but once you get it, it's done.
Don't get frustrated or beat it with a hammer. [:D][:D][:D]

Well actually part of the instructions say to hit the gun with a rubber hammer.0
