Parents Plead Guilty to Burning, Killing Infant
(Edgefield) -- A father and mother have each been sentenced to at least 25 years in prison after they admitted to beating and burning their 13-month-old son before he died four years ago.
Prosecutors say Devin Antoine Watson was sentenced to 30 years in prison and Mary Christina Dey was sentenced to 25 years behind bars.
The two pleaded guilty to homicide by child abuse Wednesday.
The child, Darrell Watson, died from a skull fracture in August 2003, but an autopsy found he had been abused a number of times before.
Prosecutors had considered seeking the death penalty against Devin Watson and a life sentence for Day, but decided to accept the plea deal instead.
Circuit Judge "Jack" Early says the abuse was severe, and he wished he didn't have to accept the plea deal.

Plea deal? 25 years? Our legal system has become a joke. If they had done that to a dog you can bet there would have been outrage all across this country. 0 -

Let justice be swift! I will donate the lumber and rope!
It will be cheaper in the long run also, what does it cost to support an inmate for a year? Not to mention these people should never see daylight, by any means necessary.0 -

I like Iraq's law - when the death sentence is imposed, there is a maximum of 30 days until it has to be imposed (no 20 years of appeals).
Or the old colonial days, string them up immediately after sentencing outside the courthouse.0
