Furniture......what the heck are they trying!!!!!!
My younger daughter wants a bigger bed....she has a twin bed and a lot of hand-me-down items for now. Since she has the big room, and Christmas is near we figured we would look into getting her a bedroom set. The first place we looked was Ashley Furniture....what a joke. If you look at how things are made and know a bit about how IT SHOULD be....its very aggrivating.
THEN....you look at the price. It seem affordable (most things are because its pretty much disposable and they want to sell you the replacement set later)....until you realize that the "six peice set" is for....the headboard, footboard, one night stand, dresser, mirror, and THE BED RAILS.
Fikkin bed rails.....the RAILS...of the BED!!!! Are you kidding me! I get ticked off that they count the head board and the foot board seperately....now the RAILS are something you have to count as a seperate item. I don't think so.
The next place we go to they will be hearing this from me before they get to say one word.
"I will be leaving here if you try anything like counting the rails of the bed as a piece of furniture....I better hear any bed price quotes as what a normal person would think of as the BED...or I'm out of here."
Its like if someone came in to buy a gun....and I took the barrels out and sold them to them as "pieces" of the gun.

I would rather buy old, solid wood, furniture from an estate sale than the crap they try to pass off these days as new. 0 -
I built our bed we are using now,we had a waterbed for years and we liked the way it was made so I built a bedframe like one, 1x12's into a rectangle with cross braces for the bottom then built another from 2x8's with a bottom the size a king matress would fit into and stacked it on top, makes a nice tall bed, used the headboard from the old waterbed and after it was stained it looks nice,I built it to look like this bed but it has a regular king size pillowtop mattress, cost me less than $300 to build including a serta mattress

I just hate to shop these days. Nothing is made like it should....unless you have it done, do it yourself, or pay three times what everything else is priced. I may try looking in the paper for something....or ask around to see if anyone has suggestions on where to get a WELL BUILT bedroom suit. 0 -

I've got a SOLID cheery queen or full bdr suit for sale. Dresser, chest, head board and foot board and rails, night stand. If you were closer, I would make you a heck of a deal! 0 -
The problem is that most of the furniture that you see in Marlos, Room Store and the other chain stores are typically made in southeast asia by slave labor. This is how they can sell you it for the prices that they do. Good furniture is built by craftsman and is labor intensive. So this is why there is no real "mid-range" priced furniture.
We buy good furniture like Stickley when we can afford it and the regular crap when we can't. We try to get 1 good piece of furniture/year.0
