New Ken Burns documentary starts tomorrow--WWII

I wish I had a DVR because I'm going to be gone most of the day tomorrow. There's a new Ken Burns documentary. It's on WWII. It's called "The War". No experts or scholars here. It was done from the "bottom up". In other words, if you weren't in the war or waiting for someone to come home from the war then you aren't in the documentary. This should be incredible as was his last documentary on the Civil War.

    he has made some epic stuff before. however, he is a left wing loon and i am now suspicious of his new work. besides, keith olberman said he is a "true american" which leads me to believe he ISNT.

    ken burns is a highschool legend of iconic status. great documentaries. our history class actually called and talked with him a couple of years back

    Saw the companion book the other day at Books-a-Million. It looked very good! I have the Civil War series on tape, along with the book. Both are awesome!

    Ken Burns puts me right to sleep. I really want to be interested and like his work, but I don't. I would rather read all of Shelby Foote than sit through Kens Burns monotone recital of the War of Southern Misbehavior.

    Last night was the first night I could catch any of this new documentary. I find it quite interesting but to each their own.

    It is done well but so far I haven't seen anything that I'd call original. Same footage, same people you see on any other WWII documentary. Some of the interviews are even repeats. You'd think with the hundreds of thousands of vets, Burns would show new faces and stories.

    So far I must say I am underwhelmed by his story telling.

    i sense a tad bit of 'lets make us feel bad for what we did to american japs in usa during the war,' the poor 'blacks,' and no doubt, itll be native americans next.
    he keeps you glued by running 3 or 4 story lines at the same time. after a while, you lose rack of whos who and where you are.

    Darn, I can not get PBS on my Direct TV package, and I live too far out to pick it up by antena.[V]

    No problem.. you can buy it on DVD for about 120 bucks... 15 hours + So far is pretty good but I agree with bobski's thoughts...
