Giving Blood
I have a complete physical tomorrow and they need to draw lots of blood. I hate that. I can do one vial no problem but for these they take 3-4 vials and I almost pass out and get dizzy and sweaty for an hour.

I was in the Air Force for a short time.
But I was stationed in England.
they still refuse to take my blood at
blood drives.
With all the tests you would figure they
could test for mad cow.

What type of explanation did they give you. Did they refuse for the sole reason you were in the american military? 0 -
The last time I gave blood they dumped it because I'd lived in sub-Saharan Africa within the past ten years.
Then they sent me a letter explaining that my SS# was on file and not ever to try and donate blood again, and that if I did ever donate blood again, they would dump it again.
I really should go and see if they've changed their policies, because even if the Red Cross behaved like a pack of jackasses fifteen years ago, there might be some decent folks out there who could use my blood.
I wasn't so angry about the fact that they had to dump my blood (back then, the tests weren't so cheap or reliable). What really ticked me off was the nasty letter they sent me, telling me never to donate again. The tone of the thing was appropriate for a letter to a miscreant.
hmmm....I'm still pissed about it. But maybe I'll call up the Red Cross and inquire about their current policies, just the same.0 -

I was one pint away from having given five gallons, when they implemented thier new policy (5 years ago). Reason I served in Europe in the 1980's during the mad cow scare. I can no longer give blood.
That eliminates almost all Military personel. Not only Europe but some of Africa and Middle Eastern areas also.
That takes a lot of folks out of the blood drives.0 -

I'm on a one year deferment since November 8, 2006 because of my proximity to Basra and potential exposure to Leishmaniasis. It's a disease carried by sand flies.

My wife is the among the rare and i don't mean blood type,since 79 she has given 23 gallons,she was presented with a pin and a plaque last fall,god bless her she only weighs 115lbs,but she never misses a blood drive here,i was astounded and amazed at the quantity she had given over the yrs,she was too when she added it all up by 5 gal. buckets,she makes me very proud[:D][:D]Loko 0 -

I have low blood pressure, and it takes me quite a while to fill up a bag. Then my blood pressure drops, I pass out, and I'm weak for like 10 minutes before I rebound. No big deal to me, I'll still give.
However, the last three times I gave blood, I explained this to them, and asked them to keep their eye on me as I finish because I will tell them when I am going to pass out. No question, it happens. Each time I told them, and each time they ignored me, and once even told me to "be patient, it's going to be a minute" as I was loosing conciousness. It pissed me off, so I don't donate anymore.

I gave blood 2 years ago, when I was 54. Last year I got a court order to show up over a basterding case. I have not been able to have kids for years, had a vasectomy after our last child. Seems the blood I gave was given at the time to a young girl from an auto crash. Well after about a year I guess said girl got pregnant & not knowning who the fater was they did a DNA to find him. Well guess what. 0 -
im in the military and there are a bunch of rules. But just recently they debunked a lot of these things holding back. You can even give if you had a tattoo recently in some states. If your a soldier beware of some blood drives on base. Some companies come in draw blood for free from soldiers then turn around and sell it to the army to use on soldiers 0 -

I've given blood since 1975, about 12 gallons. I'm glad that I can and it's easy for me to do. They always ask if you've ever paid money for sex or received money for sex. I told them that once my wife paid me not to have sex with her (ha ha) They didn't think it was to funny. 0 -

I believe it's possible, but then you'll have to pay storage fees for it. They've gotta keep it (or at least the plasma) frozen somewhere.0 -
Never have. Not sure about where to do it. I know there's those places that pay you to give it, but doesn't that kind of void the point? Other then that I have no clue where to go and do it around here. 0 -
