That's freakin' crazy. I've never seen anything like that. I've seen som A-6's over in Saudi come back with half of their wings missing and thought that was amazing. Nothing compared to this. Dang good pilot too!

I'll have to take my hat off to the pilot Truth is a great piece of flying brought that puppy down!!!

Except for making great fuel tanks ... it's apparent that they've been
making the wings WAY too long ... since the initial design/flight testing!

I remember seeing an interesting pic of a B52D hanging in a Colonel's office.

It had taken a hard SAM hit over Hanoi during Linebacker II and the entire vertical portion of the tail was gone. The pilot nursed it across Laos by creative use of engine power and no doubt a healthy amount of prayer. He then successfully landed it at a base we maintained ~250 miles away at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand.

The Colonel told me that when this damage scenario was run by the engineers at Boeing they said the aircraft wouldn't be able to fly, let alone land safely. They refused to buy the story until shown pictures.

There's also a very famous photo of a near-tailless B-17 that made it back.

.... anyway, here's one that I recall ... the other I can't find at the moment, is
    far more impressive.[:0]

cartod ... as far as thread/post count ... what do you think an acceptable count
should be ... in your estimation? Should there be some kind of punishment for
exceeding your limit? Maybe your cap should become a GB policy, eh?

No s hit? I was referring to the F-15...The B-52 was just a reminder of how tough aircraft can be. I guess my subtle approach is too much for the group here at GB....I suppose I need to spend more time explaining each part of my post, as not to confuse the inbred hillbillies and those of lesser IQ...sorry.[:D]

Did you read my post fool? Probably not...and besides prior to landing, the crew of the B-52 pictured had all bailed out by order of the pilot...it was a test flight...
